Hey all. I was given a box of real old 22lr Remington "golden bullets". No idea as to the original date of production but a quick google search on the packaging I think puts it around 25-30 years old. My question is, will this stuff shoot ok in my 10/22? Will it be real dirty or anything like that? The cases and projectiles seem to be in real good shape. Had almost like a waxy type coating on them.

The odds are that it is better quality than the current junk manufactured by Remington.

.22LR is a fairly new cartridge. If the box looks 20-30 yrs old and the brands are searchable on Google, then you probably have satisfactory ammunition.

Yeah. What I found on google were photos of "vintage" or "antique" ammo packaging. And the Remington box of golden bullets matched the photos so...I'll shoot the stuff anyway and let everyone know if it blows up in my face or something. :D

My memory might be playing tricks on me  , but I've always thought that Remington made two runs of .22 LR cartridges called "Golden" :yingyang: , one being the bulk-pack we all know (esp. b/c of the "glitter" it may leave :D ) , and the other "run/line" being a higher-quality .22 LR.....

Remington has used the "golden" plating instead of the copper-coloured plating of other makes on .22 ammo for decades; long before the current bulk packaging.

I guess that if .22LR is "fairly new" to you, than I suppose that old would be cartridges for a Dreyse needle gun, or perhaps a Westley Richards "Monkey Tail".

I wouldn't shoot it in a semi. I remember that ammo from my teens. Bolt or lever or pump, but not in a semi.

The Remington 525 bulk-pack is one of the few types of ammo that won't run consistently in my 10/22's :( , so I hear your point.....:yingyang:....but by the same token :nest: , there's actually several lines of Remington .22LR I'd not want to run through a semi-automatic ! :D

Thanks guys. I'm giving this stuff away to a gentleman with a bolt action .22, but you all had very good info and point of views. Glad to have a place like this to ask questions. Now. Who's a member of Guelph Rod and Gun? Cuz I'm taking the safety course there this weekend and hope to be a member shortly after!
