Thanks guys!

i know it's not what you'd like to hear, but it's pretty hard to beat the issue usgi firberglas- lighter in weight, and it doesn't have all those doo-dads to foul up- unless you're long range target, what do you need all those rails and stuff for anyway- the usgi fits most soldiers pretty well, unless you're well over 6 foot - on an m14, which is about 10 pounds stripped to no stock the last thing you'd wantto do is add more weight-the aluminum chassis are fine for a fixed position, but if you do any toting , you're already at 11 pounds- do you really want to make it 15 or more?

Neither, but if out of the two, promag. Since you're target shooting AND hunting, you want less weight and a smoother gun (less cheese graters so you have less snags). Sure all the rails will make you look cool, but you'll they're pretty useless on a hunt and unnecessary if you're punching neat holes in paper at a range. Of course, this depends on where and how you're hunting.

With the promag, you get the essentials of a target and hunting build. Bottom rail for bipod (for target) and adjustable stock (proper fit and cheek weld for scope). Get an ARMS18 or similar scope mount and you're good to go. Well for target you'd probably want to tune it, too.

If you want to ninja it out, Marstar's is the way to go but I believe they are all sold out.

you don't need a rail to mount a bipod- lots of folks have done it other ways-

True, but I'm putting it in the realms of the OP's parameters. If he asked for my perfect stock for an M14, I'd give him my opinion. Except he didn't ask for that. He asked out of those two stocks, which would I prefer. Other than that, there would be absolutely no use for the bottom rail and will eventually end up with some iteration of the USGI stock.

Here is an opinion from a guy that owns both. I like the cheese grater look of the Marstar for sure but with the price and extra parts it gets expensive quick. I just got the ProMag stock and after 15 minutes of fitting to make sure it was tight it was good to go. I love the ergonomics of the stock, the integrated lower rail and cover is nicer than I thought it would be, and the pistol grip is perfect for me. I have sold the Marstar stock now and only have the ProMag, this is not just based on price but I love the feel and I do not mind the weight. I am a big guy and I love a gun with a little weight. Yes I will be taking her hunting, she is not a range or safe queen. Once i get settled on a bi pod and optic it is then going to cobra imaging for a dip in the tanks.

They are two totally different platforms.

PROMAG = target shooting (non-tactical roles), traditional rifle, hunting?
MARSTAR = CQB, tactical, battle rifle platform

At least, that is how I see it.

You know what Hungry would say? "Buy two." :D :D
