I need to mount a scope bracket (modified weaver converta) onto my SKS and this requires drilling/tapping 2 holes in the receiver frame. I have no problems doing it myself rather that I don't have an access to the drill press.

Anyone knows where I can get this done in Vancouver? Or maybe someone around here has a drill press and doesn't mind me using it for about half an hour?

Thanks!

I have done the Weaver Converta-Mount install
It took me about 1/2 hr.,(the actual drill & tap part)
taking my time. Most gunsmiths/machine shops have
a hourly labor rate, usually with a 1 hr. minimum. If
the quote you more than the min. rate look elsewhere.

1.5 hrs to drill and tap 2 holes? you gotta be kidding

There is more to it than just drilling two holes, I recommend three. First off if you have not done it before there is set up on the receiver where to position it. Then countersinking of the mount before drilling. If you do not do it properly you will never get you optic zeroed. Remember the converta mount is a shotgun mount not a SKS mount it has to be made to fit. For complete set up 1.5 hours is fair.

Depending on what type of mount you are mounting. The 1's that InterAmmo sells takes about an hour from the moment that you start to strip the rifle to the moment that it's all put together. Remember that most people check 3 times before they start to drill to ensure that everything is level, level, level. As for the Choate Mount well you got to add time for 2 more wholes to be tapped plus to notch out the stock. Plus anyone who does this knows that most SkS recievers are harden steel. Witch require you to slowley drill and tap these mounts.

I drilled and tapped 4 holes on my sporter enfield. took less than an hour

Yeah, right... 1.5 is just someone wanting to get more money. Come one... Even if you're _really_ slow - 1 hour is way more than enought.

Well there is only one way to settle this. Setup, drill and tap, countersink your converta mount.....see how long it takes, plain and simple. Like I said before it is not just drilling and tapping the receiver, there is more to it.

You don't really "need" a drill press. Would have been nice, but I put on the choate mount with a regular power drill.

Yes, there is more to it than just drilling, countersinking and tapping
the base. The base requires cutting/finishing and the stock needs a relief cut.
Much of the time required is in layout and pre-fitting. If a gunsmith were to do
the complete install you could expect to pay around $250, maybe more.

go to bits of pieces if you want your stuff f up and have him lie to you:mad:
WOW!
Realy?
That is the first time I have ever heard anything bad from them. Oh ya Dlask only charged me $120 to do this for me.
