$2000 o/u

I recently picked up a Fabarm Elos C Sporting, 30" with adjustable Comb, adjustable trigger, 4 extended chokes and plastic case for $1350 tax in (easter weekend sale at TSE in Calgary). Very nice gun, well worth the money. http://www.fabarm.com/en/products-elos-c-sporting.htm

Looks like a US based company is importing/re-branding Fabarms down south now too (they are substantially more expensive down there, as well in the UK/Europe). http://www.baserrishotguns.com/

I think on the used gun market you can do quite well for $2000 bucks if you keep your eyes open. The price of O/U's has tanked a bit in the past few years (IMHO). I see Browning 425's / 525's in excellent shape going in this price range all the time. A sharp eye may also find a 686E or 687 in the ballpark. The only issue I have with some of the lesser known / lower priced brands is that they dont tend to hold their value and can be tough to re-sell. Browning Citori's and Beretta 680 series have been around for a long time and stood the test, so are a reasonable investment. As for new guns, there were browning cynergy classics floating around last year for $1500 brand new with accessories. I dont have enough experience with these guns to pass judgement, but the ones I have seen are quite serviceable. Also, if you have an problem, Browning and Beretta both have established service (and yes, bad service is better than no service!) and local gunsmiths are familiar with them and usually have parts. No offence, but you likely cant say the same about Fabarm of Franchi etc...
The other option is just hang out at a gun club long enough, and someone will make you a good deal after a bad round!

The above assessment is accurate for the most part.

Speaking of Beretta O/Us, I noticed quite a few in Accuracy Plus dot biz (Peterborough, ON) used inventory - among the most noticeable were a couple 12ga 686E, a 12 and a 20ga 687 C (all mentioned as 'like new') for $1400 and $1600 respectively.....attractive prices if those firearms truly match the description.

There are a few other Beretta O/Us among the lot as well. Personally I'm quite tempted as far as the 20ga 687 C is concerned.

For the record, I have no affiliation whatsoever with that establishment and have never made a purchase there.

What would be the purpose for acquiring that O/U shotgun (other than the act of shooting that :D)?

Hunting with occasional Clay shoots thrown into the mix? If exclusively for hunting, then what type of hunting - Upland and/or Waterfowl, perhaps even Deer?

Or will that be used exclusively for Clay shooting?

Have you had an opportunity to handle any particular brand(s)/models(s) in order to determine fit as well as obtain some idea on what you may prefer?

The only other thing to add is whether you are a left or right handed shooter so you can get an idea of cast off/on stocks as far as who has what available.
 
My best advice when purchasing a shotgun is to go directly to the store and fondle a bunch of them until you shoulder the one that points perfectly,You will know in an instant that this is the shotgun for you.Then check the price,then go directly to the flower store and order a dozen roses to be delivered to your wifes workplace.(Always better to deliver to their workplace so all the women their can tell her how romantic they think her husband is;))
 
I spent $2K on a 1937 Browning Superposed that was (and still is) in excellent condition. I'd rather have this shotgun than any (comparably priced) new one. I'm not sure why you would limit yourself to new guns only but if you want to close the door on high(er) quality guns with some experience under their belt then you are more than welcome to do so.

Just know that it's as dumb as saying that you'll only date virgins.

And we just got in two Citori Satin Hunters (3.5", 28") that will list at 1499. There is 100 cash rebate too.
We will be listing these and a couple Beretta Silver Pig I 12g 28" in the next few days. ($2079)
 
I bought a Winchester Select 101 Sporting two weeks ago for a little under $2000 and I love it. I had my mind set on a Beretta 686E Sporting until I saw and tried the Winchester. The latter fits me much better than the former.

IMHO the Winchester is an excellent value.
