I have been reading threads on this forum for a while now and I just want to say this : no matter what antis might say about us, we are a dedicated bunch. We always thrive to find a new use for a specific gun or caliber and we never run out of ideas (or excuses) to buy a gun, modify one or trying to find a purpose for one. No matter what the topic is, we have an opinion on th subject. What's the best gun ever??? Depends on only one thing : what's your budget...

Mine. Bcs I own it. Really , do we need more vague topics ???? It's hard to sift through junk to find useful threads already . We shouldn't waste bandwidth with something that's been discussed to death. You just explained it before your question that there are different purposes, so how can you pick a "best gun" ?? Best for what ? Best for who ?? ...........

I realize the OP was not actually asking "whats the best gun???"
But as others have gone off on that direction...(shows how we sometimes fail to communicate and miss the point of a thread)

If you could only use one club from your golf bag to play a round of golf with, which club would you choose?

Thats how I see some of the "Choose one gun or whats the best gun etc" threads.

Five Iron

wasn't there a movie with Kevin Costner where he plays a whole game with just one club.

By the way, my point was the best gun is the one you wouldn't part with because you either have too many fond memories or it is just priceless to you. Face it we're romantics when it comes to our hunting guns

Guns are, on average as near as I can ascertain, 50% utility/functionality/effectiveness and 50% emotion. I'm sure if I showed off the reason for my Model 70 choice, I'd get laughed at. Post '64 push feed, low end birch-stocked uncheckered Ranger model with see-through rings and the cheapest P.O.S. 4x40mm scope in existence... yeah right, nice gun. Except it's my Dad's gun, and as he's slowly losing his eyesight to a combination of diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration every shot I take with it means more to me each passing day, and as long as Winchester Model 70's are still available, new or used, it will always be the first gun I consider. If it's good enough for my pop, it's good enough for the Lord himself (nostalgic "daddy-is-my-hero" types represent!).

Are the vague topics really wasting that much of your time? Are they really in your way? Relax.

It's nice to see people b**ching about this thread but still trying to know what's better : a 30-06 or a 270.

I'm sorry to take up bandwidth with my subject but I never forced anyone to read it

That's bcs they have to sift through tons of #### threads like this to find some useful info if they're lucky...you're still not getting my point on why I'm against useless threads. Have fun ,and I hope you get the answer you're looking for. :)

TERMINATOR101CA got it right.
Why do we need another such useless thread?

Why did you post here?? I didn't until I saw yours. I despise useless threads, and this is one. I may read it out of morbid curiosity, but that's it. I don't usually post in crap like this.
Why perpetuate a waste of tiime. There, now that's 3 minutes I won't ever get back.

There are currently 261 pages under the "Hunting and Sporting Arms" category.
Surely the "Best Gun" issue is answered within.
It resembles a question I have been asked many times, "I want to get my husband a rifle or a scope or a knife". These are items that are to personal to have someone else making up their or your mind.

Do your research and proceed when you have a better thread than previous discussed or beat to death.

I think he was using a 7 iron in tin cup but I'll agree that a 5 is hard to beat.

And I think if I was picking a best rifle 30-06 is where I'd want to be. The best bolt gun I could afford with the best glass I could afford topping it. There's lots of other calibres that work for this, that or the other situation but for anything I do the aught six can handle the task well.

Now all of this has been said already, and it may be useless. But its my contribution to a fun topic IMHO ;)
