I am getting a gun shipped shortly and just realized a Postal strike is looming. I've never shipped a gun other than Can Post. Do courier companies ship guns too?

It depends on the courier company. They can each make they're own policy on this. Ask them for a list of items they don't ship. If it doesn't include guns, you can use them. Don't tell them it's a gun unless their terms and conditions require you to disclose contents.

(If their policy is no guns, resist the temptation to ship a gun without telling them. You will be in breach of your contract with them so if anything goes wrong - e.g. package lost or broken open - they can use that to wriggle out of making good.)

Looks like dhl is fine with it as long as it's not loaded (seriously, they say they won't ship loaded firearms, duh!)

Canuck Bob : Yes, couriers ship firearms but they are prohibitively expensive as their insurance rates are higher than Canada Post. I have found Purolator to be the cheapest of the lot, but their prices are still frightful! Shop around for the best price, but consider having your firearm held till the strike is resolved.

I would consider UPS as an alternative. I have used them to ship some firearms from Ellwood epps and no issues. Prices were a $5-10 more for a given package.

The only thing I did not like was waiting the whole day for when they would arrive as their delivery window is from 8am to 8pm. Canada Post is usually from 10am to 2pm for me.

Don't ship Fed-ex, all packages that originate in Canada go to the U.S. for processing and come back across the border.

For my needs UPS and Purolator were the options. UPS was much cheaper for 5 day delivery, about $25 (final cost with insurance and such) more than CP. Purulator was about $50 more than CP.

I chose to ship by courier to avoid any rotating strikes or lock outs.
