Monoculars any one use these?

Anyone use one of these Monoculars? MINOX MD 8x42 CWP Monocular or Vortex Solo R/T Monocular.

I would like some feedback or is it better to carry a smaller pair of binos. right now I use binos & find it to heavy for carrying at work.
 
I use a Solo R/T and like it.
I guess it depends what your using it for. I would not want to spend all day looking through a monocular due to eye strain, but for determining what something is (gopher or not) or to check out something quickly they work well. Lite and small, the belt clip is handy too.

Celestron has brought out 3 new monoculars for 2011,6,7, and a 10 power. Decent optics and inexpensive compared to other brands. FS
 
Would be used for surveillance. I deal with a lot of people that are doing things they shouldn't be doing on our property. Drugs, open liquor & weapons so looking for options that are lite & compact but have some power. I have Minox binos there great can see a guy rolling a joint from 150-200 yards away. Not that it's a big deal but being able to see an item that small from a long distance away is a plus.

That is kinda where the Solo was intended for use I believe, most of them that we have sold are to LE agencies for covert surveillance.
I have not tried the other brands or have any input from others on them, but for the price and quality the Vortex has good reviews.
 
Vortex Solo, another option would be one of the 15x Recon scopes, slap it on top of a copperhead walking pod and you have an ultra compact spotting scope set up that weighs in at 3lbs or less total
 
For surveillance it's hard to beat a spotting scope mounted on a stand or taped to an old .22 stock if you just need a quick check like stopping while using an ATV ,or walking in the back 40.
You can go anywhere from a $50 cheapy to $2000.
