Hello fellow shooters Im looking for some experienced shooters who have used the CZ 97B(D) and would like to know their thoughts on the gun(s)

Right now Im looking at purchasing a .45 I already have a (9mm) CZ 75SP-01 tactical and like it. Ive had some limited experience with other hand guns but I've shot a variety of make and cal.

Your thoughts on the subject will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks BT

I have the 97B. Great gun very accurate. Mine runs every style of lead /plated bullet I have run through it with no hiccups. Grip is large so it won't be a friend to somebody with small hands. Disassemble for cleaning is easy. For the price the gun is a much better buy than most pistols shooting the .45acp cartridge.

Take Care

Bob

more or less accurate than a 1911 gov't? it seems to be a full-size bugger, and holds 10rds and is cheaper than most good 1911s out there......

The grip on the gun is BIG. Make sure you get a chance to hold it before buying. It is quite a bit bigger than the SP01 you have. It is a very very accurate gun, I shot well on a bench, but off hand, it's just way too big for me to shoot accurately. Some people consider a Sig p226 to have a big grip, but the 97b is even bigger.

Trigger is nice, very nice in fact for a combat pistol, no complaints there.

Hmm its something to consider. I mean Im a pretty big guy over 6 foot I suppose my hands would fit. Without getting into some crazy prices I dont think I could really go wrong. Do you think a holster for the 75 would fit a 97 ? How is the recoil on it in comparison to other 45s?

If you want an accurate .45 like the CZ but has small grip you should consider the Jericho .45. Maybe more accurate...

Felt recoil seems even less than a 1911 actually. The bore axis being lower certainly helps.

No, holster for a 75 would not fit 97. 97 has a much much wider frame compared to the 75. I don't know why on their website it says the 75 is 1.5" wide and the 97 is 1.4". Having held them both, it certainly didn't feel like that to me.

Another thing to note is that spare parts/accessories for it isn't as readily available as the 75/sp-01, and certainly isn't nearly as readily available as a 1911.

If you just want excellent out of box accuracy, then cz97b (not sure about the 97bd) is one of the most accurate 45 out there.

Id say around 750 to 900 all depending on how many hands it's passed through what a deal right with great accuracy now if only I could find a 97bd for sale

Never tried the decocker version. But between the sp-01 decocker & sp-01 standard safety. The decocker version seemed... a bit more squishy-er. Not as crisp, and you also have the double action to deal with... Why do you want the decocker anyway? For production?

For production? I currently have the 9mm sp-01 tactical and I think I know what you mean by squishy. So there is a noticeable difference. Im not sure why I want the decocker maybe convience ? That's why Wondering because Ive only used the sp-01 tactical with the decocker and don't know how much difference there is. Ah I think I understand what your saying about the double action now. Food for thought

Production as in IPSC (International Practical Shooting Confederation) Production Class, it's a shooting competition where you can only use guns which 1st shot is either a double action or striker fired (ie glock), and no modifications to the gun.

So your sp-01 tactical would be a nice production gun provided it hasn't been modified. It also has the advantage that after decocking, the hammer is still half cocked, so that your double action is more like 1& 1/2 action. Sig's double action for example is longer.

Anyway going back to the 97... if you don't know what i meant by production you obviously don't compete in IPSC.

I see no reason going the 97bd route vs. 97b. Other than you can get a 2nd strike on the ammo if the 1st hammer strike doesn't cause it to fire. Doesn't happen that often with factory ammo.

Some people doesn't find that feature useful as they just check the magazine ensure it's fully in, rack the slide, and keep on shooting. The disadvantage with 2nd strike ability is that if you load your own ammo, and you have one round without any gunpowder or very little, you risk running into a scenario where you pull the trigger, the ammo without powder propells the bullet forward but without enough force that the bullet gets stuck in the barrel, and if you have a very very weak recoil spring, the gun might chamber a 2nd round and as you pull the trigger... well you know what happens next. This can happen in theory, but has never happened... at least I haven't heard.

Another reason people like the decocker is because they can carry it loaded for a long time without having to worry about the mainspring weakening. If they did that with a non-decocker/single action only gun then that's something they would worried about. but nobody in their right mind would conceal carry a 97b... it would be trying to hide an elephant on an airfield...

Plus, the concept that holding a spring under constant tension leads to weakening of the spring is a fallacy, anyway.

I never fired one but handled one at the funstore when purchasing a .22. My hands aren't super big but my great grandparent's were born in Former CZ Republic and the damn gun just fit so good! You know when a gun's sights just line up perfect to your eye when in a shooting stance? Fat head and stubby fingers Fit CZ like glove!!!!!!It is unique though and I would suggest at least handling one before you purchase.
