Hi fellaws, this morning, i received my SVT 40, purchased from weimajack:) Again Jacques sell me a truly beautiful piece,a refurb yes but in really awesome condition. Its a late SVT, 1944 dated with AVT stock. Here's somes pics

Bore is in virtually new condition

alls parts are in like new condition, and i got a SVT cleaning kit, i should buy the gas wrench and the sight tool to complete the kit.

the AVT stock is heavier and the feeling is excellent, markings are still present, excellent stock:)

Got one coming. I was wondering if all the re-furbished ones had the thicker ATV stocks, which were a weakness on the original rifle ?

Nope, the SVT stock,like the one on my rifle, with the sling slot similar to the Mosin Nagant are called naval stock. When the SVT went to arsenal for refurb, the soviet have many spare AVT stock so they use them as replacement.

The "naval" stocks are much rarer than the regular SVT or AVT stock. Most are set up in the AVT configuration, but not all. I have one with this stock, in an AVT configuration, but it is not stamped with th large "A". Sweet looking rifle you got there!
 
Thats funny, Just got a very similar one today, same markings,

This is just my first rifle, any good suggestions or hints would be very appreciated, espeically with ammo and where to find it cheap lol
 
Surplus is the cheapest by about 20 cents a round when you look at the cheapest newer stuff. Check the dealers at the top of the page and shop around.
 
Nice Svt, Svt.:) Is the whole rifle a Tula, or just the stock? I haven't seen too many of the naval ones around. Does the receiver have the scope mount grooves on it ?

Clean the bore really well and get that chamber free from all the dried grease and gunk.

Yes its a Tula. Mine has the slim trigger guard. Slim trigger guard are found on early production but when thoses rifle went to arsenal for refurbishing, they put whatever parts available,i also have the 6 port muzzle brake and for a 1944 rifle, should had the large port type. But the most important is the condition and as you can see on my post with the pics, the bore is like new. As for the scope rail, no my SVT dont have. The manufacture of the rails ended in october 42. Interesting thing is that 1944 was the last full year production of the SVT 40 and the production ended completely first week of 1945, if my sources are correct. 1944 rifle dont seems very common and finding a 1945 dated would be a miracle! I'm looking foward to add fews more SVT in my collection, i will see what will be available in the nexts months. Peoples that bash the Tokarev miss alot because even if was a bit complex for the time and not entirely perfect, the tokarev is a very very potent rifle and i prefer the SVT over my Garand....(sorry if i offended someone).

That's interesting about the narrow and wide trigger guards. I just checked my 1940 and it has an Avt stock and a narrow guard. No Tula stamp on the Avt stock though. Thanks for the pictures.
I've been busy with my Mosins and need to get back to my Svt.
 
Just finished to tune an SVT40 for my private collection.

WOW, extremely accurate rifle.

I just think it's a better shooter than a Garand.
