Spent Saturday cutting the grass and painting my M14 OD Green ;) ... plan was to scope it with a spare SWFA 10x on ARMS 18 and ARMS rings but the Aimpoint 2x seems to balance real well on the ARMS 18. ill swap out the mount to an ARMS m68 and it should be perfect (just need a Green cover)

For some reason I thought that the scout mount would be better with a UTG / KAc style forward rail and a would allow me to keep the stripper clip guide...

Old school ARMS mounts maybe the way to go for these... Any suggestions? Ive run Springfield SOCOM mounts in past but wasn"t sold...

I thought a SCOUT build was a shorty barrel and had the scope mount on the barrel head of the receiver? Nice looking boomstick there shazam. :D

i run a vortex strike fire on a promag(arms clone) mount, i love this setup, quick to get on targt and my eyes focus better on the target opposed to the front sight or cross hairs of a scope, i have shot it out to 300 yards with acceptable accuracy...nice looking rifle....

Sadly they don't make a green cover. You'll have to repaint your stock in tan! :p Or maybe a grass patern with tan... Anyway you already have two beautyful rifles.

The ARMS 18 is good but may not hold zero with time and abuse. In that case or if you really want to use stripper clip, I suggest you look at the Ultimak rail. It's the lowest mount there is, priced fairly, good quality, may increase accuracy by stiffening the barrel... Nice low-profile look too. With the Ultimak rail, the Aimpoint low ring allow to cowitness. Otherwise the ARMS ring you're looking at is perfect.

Btw, your oprod channel seems dry? You've been here for longer than me but I would dare to ask if you did read about M14 lubrication.

You're right. Scout M1A are 18" and scout scopes mount over the barrel.

You are probably the only one out there who thinks the ARMS 18 has zero-holding issues. There are those who experience stovepipes (gen II as opposed to the gen I open top) and have gone towards a higher mount like a SEI but zero isn't a problem.

Yup I realize that the "scout" configuration usually is optic ahead of the receiver .. I havent picked up a rail yet so Im working with the stuff I have for now.. this is the ARMS M68 mount on the ARMS 18:

Pretty well balanced with the 2xML2 Aimpoint. As soon as I get a rail system Ill try it forward of the receiver. I was thinking UTG only because of availability. Does anyone have the ULTIMAK available in Canada? Im familiar with their kit (Good Stuff)

* BTW the tan stock is the start of a FDE Project (Gotta work on my camo painting skills!) maybe this one will end up with the rail and Aimpoint scope .. not sure yet

Just a note Ive built up M14s "scout" rifles in past: This one had a SA SOCOM mount USGI stock, 18.5" navy sight yada yada .. I think the new style rails are promising... the new Chinese polymer stocks are easy to work with too ;)

I agree that rail is a hi-quality mount. My understanding is that the problem often start with the receiver dimensions, particularly with Springfield receivers. My only personal experience is that the rail would not mount properly on my M1A. Well that receiver wouldn't fit a Sage either...
Shazam seems to have an M1A as well?

You can get it from Brownells.

Hey Boomer686 .. thats a SAF Lithgow L1A1 (Although I need same same furniture for my Ishapore too ... that indian wood is pretty gross).

Pictures would be good - great project Ideas on CGN!

As for the POI - ill report once I get back from the range (I didnt know what else to use the side raild for ;)

Oh but it will ;) My rig has been abused.
I never check the mount anymore, matter of fact I can't remember the last time I did.

Holds zero after 6-7000 rounds  Have to also give credit to the Millet adjustable rings as mine aligned slightly to the left of center.

Note: I had to swap the bolt internals (extractor spring & plunger/ejector & spring) out for USGI (shorter) as the cases (1 in 100) were getting jammed between the Op Rod and the chamber.
Have not had 1 instance since.

It ejected forward before and now ejects sideways.
