Do I really need a .257 WBY?? Yup bought it!!

The 257 wby is my favorite cartridge of all time. A 100gr ttsx at 3650fps is hard not to like. To shoot a deer at 100 yards with something going that fast is good times. It's accurate, doesn't kick hard, good bullets available and good brass. 72gr or so of powder a pop. It shoots nice and flat too which means just hold dead on out to 350 yards or so and don't worry about bullet drop. Mine is in an accumark which is a nice gun imo.

Buy one, you won't be sorry. My friend was getting 3450 fps out of his 24" vanguard on some preliminary load dev we did 2 weeks ago. He was getting .6" groups with that load. We will try and push it faster but won't try to hard as accuracy is very good and a 100gr tsx at 3450fps ain't to shabby.

Are the triggers adjustable on the vanguards....or just replace it?? I look it it tomorrow.:)

On the older vangaurds my local dealer sold a timney trigger with every one, I think the current production models have a better trigger in them. Yes I believe the vangaurd triggers are adjustable.

While I ceratinly agree with buying a new rifle, load some 120's in your 7mm Weatherby, and I know you have one, ...there's your 257 Wby:D

Thats cheating!!! So I bought this one. The wood isnt as fancy as they were when they first came out but in keeping with competeing with other rifles I understand that. It is a nice straight grain and with stripping it and putting on a oil finish I think it would look 100% better. But for now its gonna have to do.

Now to get her scoped up,load up a handful 117 grain hornadies I have and give her a whirl and see how it does.

Be sure to try some of the 120 gr Hornady hollow points. They have always been very accurate in my rifles, and are a great big game bullet.

Don't let the HP fool you. They were designed by Hornady for deep penetration and expansion. I have used them in 25-06, 25-06 AI, and 257 Wby, and they do that very well!

Bless you, Ted, for bringing another bit of "new tricks" to this old dog.

I have never seen, nor even heard of, 120 gr Hornady HPs, in 35 years of loading for quarter-bores. Now I need to get me some! ;)

My son put a 120gr Hornady HP through both sides of a medium 3x3 elk at 400 yards from a 25-06...........................dead........Harold works great on black bear and big bodied western WT /mulies!

It is really one mean bullet on big game. I am surprised more people don't use it.

Ted

Ted I have probably bought several thousand .257 cal bullets, but to the best of my recollection I have never even SEEN a box of these ones. But you can bet I am going to make it my business to find some!

And yes, my friend, I will see you in September. :) But probably not toting a quarter-bore........
