I just called Hornady and talked to phone option #3, a guy named Bob. He said the test barrel for Superperformance in 30-06 was 24" and figured that a 22" barrel would loose 50fps. Has anyone chronoed Superperformance ammo in any caliber? I am using 165 grn in my rifle.

Out of my TC Icon Precision Hunter 308 22 inchs tube they run 2830 loosing only 10 fps for the last 2 inchs... JP.

I've put my 25-06 superformance thru a chrony. It was about 20' in front of the gun and I got 3097 fps with a 117gr sst. Fired from a 22" barrel. I believe they're listed at just over 3100fps

How do you think they will hold up against a black bears shoulders? A 117gr bullet at say 150-200 yards. I have a few boxes and they shoot well. If I can't find any tsx I was going to experiment with the sst

Having hunt with both i have to give the edge to the SST over the TSX, personals experiences have show to me that in a smaller diameter bullet... 25-06...243 the SST anchor them harder, peoples never talk much about the SST it is a sleeper and very near the top for hard hitting ammo, my wife shot our two last mooses with SST 95 gr 243 at 175 metres both very clean kills, my 0.02 cents... JP.

Thank you. I test bullets by shooting them into water jugs in a jig not that great but it gives me a good idea of what the bullet is doing and how well it holds together and penetrates. I'm going to try the sst's this week.

I would use Hornady's Interbond bullet (also avaliable in superformance) for bear - this is a premium bonded bullet and should give you better more consistent pentration. For some reason I cannot find it in Canada though...

SST is an accurate, very aerodynamic bullet but it's no a premium bullet and will never perform like a bonded bullet (Nosler Accubond, Hornady InterBond) or a monolithic bullet (Barnes TSX or Speer Trophy Bonded Tip).
Both bonded bullet and monolithic bullet will plow through almost anything at any angle, while Hornady SST and Nosler Ballistic Tip will kill like lightning on quartering shots.
I hunt with smaller, high velocity cartridges (243 Win and 270 WSM) which get a huge boost in killing power when using premium bullet since they won't blow up on impact if they hit a bone.

I am going to try and get a few boxes of the GMX. I prefer led free but if i cannon im going to get the inter bonds and try them out.

Any opinion on the GMX?

I just go with my own experience my wife and hunt moose for the last 20 years, she use to hunt with my very old 250-3000 99 Savage as it have less recoil than a 308, now 5 year ago i bought a 243 for her, the first hunt she shot at a moose at a 125 metres using reload with nosler partition, she is a good shot so she did hit the moose in the boiler and it did run 1000 feets before i could give it a 308 final touch... the bullet had made about 8 inch and died there, the year after she was worry tu use the 243 so she went back to the 250-3000 that year i shot our moose the year after did not know about the SST a that time i was tolds by a friend at Higginson powder to reloads with SST 95 gr at nearly 3200 fps. Now the last two year she took our moose using the SST both at 175 metres and both boiler shot and no exit never walk more than 20 metres, the SST is the best bullet for 243 i can vouch for that, this is my 0.02 cents... Cheers. JP.

The SST is a nice accurate bullet, but if you keep shooting moose with it, it is going to bring you to grief.
Shot placement is very critical, because that SST will not penetrate much bone.
Trust me, The Partition is a much better bullet on big game like moose.
I cannot speak for the Partition that only made it 8" into the animal, [maybe ½ a load of powder?] but I have shot a couple of moose with the 6mm Remington and partitions, and they gave complete penetration on braodside shots in the ribs.
Moose went less than 20 feet in both cases.
FWIW, I have been hunting moose since 1962, and have shot many of them.
Regards, Eagleye.

I accept your experience with pleasure but there is no way i will replace my SST and the 20 guys i reload for always tell me make sure to use the same bullet, this is not and isolated case SST rule around here, myself would never think of not reloading for my 308 anything but 165 gr SST... Thank you. JP.
