Was looking at different rifles for target for the next project.

Just wondering why there are so few Browning actions used for precision applications.

I only own a BLR and a an old Belgium made shotgun, so I know nothing of their bolt actions.

Anybody use Browning for accuracy??

The reason that so few Browning actions are used compared to the Remington and its clones is that the Remington has a cylindrical action with a smooth lower section that is very easy to bed and work with in general, plus they are relatively cheap. There is nothing wrong with Browning actions with regard to accuracy, but they are a little trickier to bed, although I have never had a problem doing so. My own A-Bolt in .204 will put five shots into less than a quarter of an inch. I have four A-Bolts all very accurate rifles.

I recently had a custom done on a browning A-bolt and don't think it'll happen again. I put on a Shilen barrel chambered in 7mm-08, finished at 21" and had the gunsmith true the action and had it glass bedded. I think in total I have just over 2k into it plus the original cost of the rifle and now it shoots about as good as my savage fvss. Both rifles are averaging 3/4 moa. Not really what I had in mind when I started.

Those results almost certainly have nothing to do with the action.

I had an A Bolt Target model I was gonna rebarrel. Gunshop wouldn't touch it because Browning uses locktite to put the barrel onto the action.

Removing the barrel could screw up the threads in the action. So I sold the rifle instead of chancing anything.

It isn't that Loctite is the problem... some A Bolts/etc. have such a tight thread fit they gall and wipe the threads out on barrel removal requiring the action be re threaded slightly larger and a new barrel correctly fitted.
