Just picked this polish M44 up from another member.
Beautiful condition inside and out. Has some parts that are marked with the Izhevsk triangle. Don't know the significance, probably just left over parts.

What is that marking on the take down disc ?

I love the "Mod. 98", it is quite clear and boldly stamped.

From the WaA, I am going to guess she was made by Berlin Lubecker Maschinenfabriken in Lubeck, 237 production code.

Thanks Gentlemen, Nabs nailed it! Berlin Lubecker Maschinenfabriken.
The markings on the takedown disc are property markings of the Ostsee (East Sea) Naval command. So basically a navy k98. Thanks again for looking, and the nice comments Gentlemen:)

Another nice addition to my Finn collection

Hello you all!
This 22nd of June 2011, I got my hands on that very nice example of a 1942 VKT barreled Finn M-91 Mosin-Nagant.
Her barrel is one of the cleanest in my collection : mirror bright with very sharp lands.

Upon returning home, I rushed to my reloading room and managed to prepare 25 carefully assembled cartridges with a load that usually gives good results in my other Finns, then went to the range.

I put a target at 50 meters and another one at 100 meters.
After drying the barrel with a patch, I slipped a round in the chamber and put a six o’clock hold on the target’s white bullseye at 50 meters; That first shot went just like that :

Encouraged with that result, I put my glasses on and loaded five rounds in the magazine then held my six o’clock on the 6’’ black circle at 100 meters.
Everything was going fine when I « burst my bubble » on the fifth and last shot, rushing it. Er… damn flies!
I ended with that 2 3/4’’ group. Had I not goofed I could have been rewarded possibly with an 1 3/4" group instead.

Anyway, I’m quite happy with the results; that kind of shooting from a new rifle with standard loads in not yet fireformed brass shows lots of promises.
Next weeks are going to see more load development!
