I think I need to be "schooled" on the Ljungman.........the thing refused to #### at the range today, and only moved "back-and-forth" to chamber and then strip out rounds ! :(

Any advice ?

Was the hammer being caught and held by the sear?.
If not, and it was following the bolt home, likely it's old sticky goo in the trigger group causing your malfunction.

Basically, you're 100% correct - the bolt was not catching.....:(...sincere thanks for the words of advice !

Was fooling around with it after I posted the question, and came across an informative website.........

In brief, I guess I wasn't pulling the bolt-carrier/cover assembly back far enough.......I'm glad I kept my fingers well-clear of the action, because when the assembly went back far enough, the carrier slammed forward with authority ! ...

Hear you on "authority" ... betcha more than the odd Swedish grunt got his pinky shortened:eek: back in the day.

May I suggest you try some warmish 4350/Horn 140gr.SP loads in that AG42b of yours. Can they ever shoot. :D

Brutal on the brass though, if you can even find it.

Thx for the website link, looks like a good one.

The AG-42B I have is a bit of a "mutt"........it's got M-14 "guts" and has been rebarelled to 7.62x51mm....:D

I'm fairly new here cyclone, & not born yesterday neither, so forgive me for wondering if an old hand is funnin with me, pulling my leg a bit.;)

An M14/AG42b hybrid in 7.62mm  ... hope your gonna bring it to the shoot ... 'cause I GOTTA see this!.

I handled a Ljungman long ago at Lebaron's and frankly the thing scared me...there was no way I was putting my fingers anywhere near that bolt assembly...

Garand thumb would be a minor affliction in comparison...

This was made up in 7.62 Nato?

Love to see pics of the details.

Ganderite will vouch for this one :yingyang: , so I'm not worried about being "called-out" on it....:p

LOL
If cyclone's leg pullin', mine's been tugged for over a year!

Glad you got your's working again. I've owned mine for 25 years. When I bought it at a local auction (Dad's FAC as, I was too young!) no one knoew what it was. Pretty lucky to have my fingers still...I was a kid but, when that bolt slammed home the first time, all the "in knows" leaped back! I got teased for lugging my Ljungman for deer...

...after 25 years use, I just broke an extractor on Saturday!!!

If you are having any difficulty in finding a replacement extractor, I've got one from that tools/spares kit that LeBaron used to sell for $10. You're more than welcome to use it till you find another.

vviking

That's a mighty kind and, generous offer. I appreciate it and, may have to take you up on it. Currently bugging a few local folks I can think of. There should be 2 extras in the spares kit...I'm thinking mine's not the only one that perished based on that. Took about 4 years to find a replacement magazine for mine, now THAT was a challenge. I got about 25 year's worth shooting out of before anything broke...might have to switch to all swedish here (Volvo or, Saab and, only Ikea furniture!) based on the fun (and deer too) this rifle has offered!

I do love our [CGN] community and, truly appreciate the offer. It really adds to the joy of shooting.

Seriously, does it have any m14 components or, was it "just" (project enough) rebarreled?

We demand to see your pics of your 7.62 Ljungman. :D

There was a 7.62 Ljungman on gunbroker listed as "prototype" and, asking several grand for it...someone posted some cool pictures in a previous Ljungman thread, regarding a scoped Ljungman.

No, I seen some old pics of the rifle (Ganderite had it) - he stated it shot well enough to shoot a svc rifle match with. I do however want to see more pics of the rifle. :D The one Ganderite had and that the op now has is a professional conversion done by an "unknown gunsmith":ninja:.

Apparently the "one armed man" did the conversion. :D

To avoid extractor breaking, you need to keep your chamber very smooth and clean. Polishing it with J&B compound is one way of doing this.
Oilng the chamber then swabbing it before shooting is another. You can also wipe your rounds with a very lighly oiled rag.
BTW, be careful with "warmish" 4350 or similar slower powders in a Ljungmann: it makes for a higher than normal gas pressure at the port and slams the action hard. The extractor is also subjected to higher stress.
PP.

M-14 mag, barrel, and some M-14 revisions to the gas system....
