Bullet Recommendation for .223

I have a weatherby Vanguard stainless which shoots one particular factory ammo ridiculously accurately. 1/3 MOA at worst.

It's Winchester 223 rem 45gr jhp
varmint
high velocity 3600fps 40 round value pack
USA2232

Now, I've tried some factory ammo from American Eagle, and winchster in 55gr and they don't shoot accurately at all.

So I'm looking to reload but the selection at WSS is pretty limited. Maybe I'll order online.

I normally stick to Nosler bullets but they're not available for 223. What bullet does everyone recommend which might match the ballistic performance of those factory rounds?

I have had very good results with Sierra #1385 40 grain HPs out of my CZ with a 1:12" barrel. I also got rather ho-hum results with any of the 55 grain bullets I tried.

The #1310 45 grain SP might also be worth trying if you want to approximate the Winchester 45 grain load.
 
Apparently, it's a 1 in 12 twist. It seems to hate anything larger than 45 grains. That particular winchester 45gr hollow point though, just shoots 1/3 MOA.

You've answered your own question. I've used Winchester 46gr hp with good success.

I have yet to try out the hornady varminter 45gr hp, but I'm quite sure they'll be ok.
 
There was a company from the prairies that made bullets and a few years ago I bought some 45 gr hollowpoints from them. They were very accurate and killed yotes well, now I only have to remember the name...

Oh does Winchester make bullets for sale as a component? I've never seen then at wss. I was talking about factory loaded ammo that I had bought.
 
You bet. i was shooting those same fourty sound value pack bullets. i started reloading with varmint grenades, and they shot super well as well. next i started with the winchester components 46 grain. and those too shot really tight groups at a hundred. i have not yet shot them much farther.

Calhoon is the only Prairie bullet maker I can think of. Their stuff worked very well on gophers too.

Mr. Calhoon moved to the other side of the paranoia line a few years back though, and the bullets are hard to find.

Where are Nosler bullets not available for the .223? I saw lots at P&D, I'm pretty sure.

Nosler stopped production of .224 bullets?
If you have a rifle that consistantly shoots 1/3 minute groups, cherish it.
Don't burn it out plinking.
Enter some benchrest matches, wow the guys with their $3000 rifles.
