Fouled Barrel

i brought it to a gun shop in Humboldt and they told me the barrel was fawked.. I kept at cleaning and it cleared up after about 2 hours of brissle brush.

Now a funny one.
Local gun store employee years ago Wanted to parkerize his Ruger 10/22.
They did the work but forgot one little thing. To plug the barrel at both ends.

Solution? use wire brush until parkerizing removed. After MANY MANY passes through the bore, he ran a clean patch through, and found out he now had a .22 SHOTGUN:eek:
 
Second post in a month i've seen this ammo do this to a barrel. I'm staying away. The last guy had so much lead that it almost looked like bullets being pushed out!
 
Gun works like a charm, went back to the federal pack,, fired a brick through with no problems at all. These federals 525 pack seem to be the best for my Gsg as well as my Mp15-22. I even ran some stingers through and they worked great as well, but for the price that should be expected. :rockOn:
 
I've ran into this issue lately with CCI Blazers... 30 rounds and the barrel is plugged. After searching it seems the bullets are failing to obturate and the gas is getting around the rear of the bullet and then melting the lead into the barrel etc...

I've shot Blazers out of the same gun for a good year without zero issues and 1000+ rounds between cleanings but now I can't even shot a box without problems.
 
wow, I've never seen anything that bad. I've often gone several thousand rounds between cleaning bores, and even then they clean up with just a few quick passes

They told you that your barrel was ruined after 525 rounds of .22lr? That leading could be removed in about an hour with solution and a copper brush. You should bring the barrel back and show the guy, thank him for almost costing you $100+

Do you use the federal bulk because of accuracy or just price? You could probably get some copper plated ammo that won't crud up your barrel like that for the same price. I remember my Walther P22 loved Winchester Dynapoints. It was weird, because that ammo sucked in everything else, but that pistol would shoot stupid small groups at 25y with it.

I highly doubt it as I've had it about a year now and am the original owner. Gun in question is a Ruger MKIII Competition and its defiantly had a couple of thousand rounds through it which were mostly blazer or t22 for bullseye over the winter.

I picked up a box of 555's (plated/copper etc) and no problems. Hitting Rams @ 100 yards just as consistently as I would with the blazers. Once that box is empty I'm going to try some of the older un-lubed blazers actually marked CCI vs the new non marked lubed ones which are giving me problems.

Lastly, if you search on the rimfirecentral forum theirs a good dozen plus people all who are having extreme/severe leading issues in their Rugers with Blazer ammo.

I've never had a problem with the federal bulk pack. So far no matter what gun i put them in they shoot flawlessly and clean. My Mp15-22 absolutly wouldnt shoot 1 clip of anything remington. The 10/22 will just about shoot anything with out a problem but these other guns are alot more fussy. The federal pack here is about 29 bucks which is more then most other bulk packs. So i dont buy federal for accuracy or price, i just like them because i can shoot them in any gun i own with out FTF, FTL, FTE's.

The heat of ignition is most intense in the case and in the 1st few inches of bullet travel. If the bullet was failing to conform to the ID of the barrel then the gasses rushing past would not cause extra lead buildup as their temperature and pressure are diminishing. Also, as the bullet engages the rifling it virtually seals the barrel and the gasses behind it. If the lead bullet was failing to obturate it would indicate a harder lead compound therefore being more resistent to the heat and pressure.
It's likely caused by softer lead compound allowing the lead to be smeared or nonlubed or ineffective lube on the bullets.

But,anyway you cut it - try different ammo. There is a reason that price is low on promotional brands of ammo. Not for the benefit of the consumer but because QA standards are not as rigid.

Some of my RF have near 200,000 rounds through and still shoot well. The degree of leading with the ammo used has varied from type to type.
As has been said it is near impossible to shoot out a RF.
