So if I were to take a small hammer and an ar upper and fire a round by hitting the firing pin with the hammer, would that make the hammer an ar 15 variant as well? lol

You bet!

Actually you dont even need a bolt carrier or a firing pin. A knitting needle (thrust directly into the primer) will now be restricted by name as an AR15 variant.

All it has to do is fire a shot, right? Old ladies, get your ATT's in order
