Hey Guys! I have a Norc CQ and am really enjoying it, but now its time to start tinkering! I was wondering if anyone could recommend a link showing how to remove the front sight/gas block, and add a block with a rail as I would like to mount a lower optic, and have the option of flip ups as well. Are there any issues in removing it on a Norinco? Anyone recommend a replacement gas block? What tools will I need. I work around pistols alot, so I intend on learning and doing the work myself. I know there are lots of guys with tonnes of experience on here, so I figured this would be the best place to start. Thanks in advance for your input!

You pretty much need to cut it off, Norc puts those pins in there with a sonic weld apparently.
....and then install a railed free-float fore-end if you want to mount a folding front sight.
The problem I ran into is the barrel nut I needed to install the free float rail with would not slide over the cut down gas block so I had to cut that off too and use an after market one. Just something to be aware of.

Or you can find a FF that uses the factory barrel nut, like the Samson Evo or the Troy MRF. Grind down the sight, cut off the delta ring, and you're good to go.

1)Get a good set of punches.
2)Get a front sight bench block.
3)Get the Brownells AR-15/M16 Critical Tool Kit (080-000-812) which includes the Action Block/Vise Block Set, the Armorers Wrench and a few other tools.
I was able to properly remove both the front sight and barrel nut from my Norc without resorting to hacking at it with a cutoff wheel.
Having the proper tools is 1/2 the job. Knowing how to use them is the other half.
As for a low profile gas block I chose the one by YHM because it was available locally.
I would have prefered the adjustable gas block by JP Rifles but I didn't want to wait.
