Modifying a 10/22 question.
So I am new to all this, Presently shooting my Cooey 64B but I want to upgrade to a 10/22 because of the 25 and larger mags and the aftermarket is teaming with add-ons and accessories.
I am liking some of the Boyd's stocks. now can I buy a cheaper synthetic stock 10/22 from the many places or a used one and jut swap the stocks and then when and If I want upgrade the barrel and trigger group and actions or do I have to get one that is meant to be modified

Buy one. Shoot it for a bit without changing anything, then decide what you want to do.

Do you like tacticool mods?

Do you want a target rig?

Do you want a hunting rifle?

Those questions will be answered once you fire a bone stock one. There are accessories to turn it into whatever 22lr you want, which is really the beauty of the 10/22.

Swapping between hunting and target would mean you would have to change the barrel and the stock.
Normally...hunting is a tapered barrel and target is a heavy barrel.
Your stock would have to change also, as it has to be channeled for the type of barrel your using. (taper channel VS heavy channel)
I hope this answers your question.

Swapping a 64 for 10/22....my heart is breaking!

...I adore the 64's!

don't worry nothing is happing fast, i am thinking about it and researching.
*side note* where abouts north of 7 are you???

thanks for the clarifications on the deferent barrels, could a target barrel and set up be used hunting gofers, squeals and other small farm rodents. I ask because I have been told that target barrels don't like to be moved around a lot.

I was thinking of the ss evolution or the Blaster from Boyds. I would get it unfinished and have it real tree camo dipped.

Sure you can...
BUT most heavy barrel are just that....HEAVY
You get tired of carrying them around real fast.
I have a couple hunting rigs set up with heavy/target barrels but there aluminum and real nice to carry.

Consider the ruger factory trigger the biggest hurdle to accuracy. There is decent accuracy that can be had from the ruger factory barrels, you just have to work with it.

Creating consistency around the barrel is key to getting accuracy (from any barrel). Bedding, headspace, ammo and you (most important) have to working together perfectly for anything to be accurate.

I have a Dlask 12-1/2" heavy barrel on my 10/22. Pretty happy with the accuracy, and because it is shorter, it weighs about the same as a factory skinny barrel. Plus the weight is closer to the center of the rifle so it swings quickly as well.

Have used it on gophers some but because of the flooding here in SE Sask it has seen less use than I had hoped.
