It is a solution to a problem that didn't (shouldn't) exist. People either walking around with the hammer resting on the firing pin (not on half ####) and hitting the hammer causing an accidental firing, or keeping their finger on the trigger when putting the hammer on half #### and having the hammer get away from their control.
Proper handling of an exposed hammer gun is not difficult nor dangerous, it just call for a little dexterity. Adding the crossbolt added another layer of security for the lawyers in case somebody made a case trying to get money because of their own mistakes. You say you will not use the safety, but if that guy Murphy happens to be around when the buck of a life time shows up, the safety might be on. If I had one with a safety such as that, I would either use it all the time so as not to forget to take it off, or remove it completely and rely on the half ####. Just my opinion and worth what you paid for it.
