Couldn't agree more no-one should ever be asked to move their equipment because of rule 6.2.3 - never heard of it?? Because I've never seen it enforced at any IPSC match ever!! :eek:

For those unfamilliar with the rule, and I assume that's a lot of people as when I mention it I get blank looks all round.....

6.2.3. Prior to the commencement of a match, each competitor must declare one Division for score, and Match Officials should check competitor equipment compliance with the declared Division, prior to the competitor making an attempt at any of the courses of fire.

Now of course of you don't know the requirements of the division you are in what are you doing on the range ;) but if you ever get bumped halfway through the match quote 6.2.3 to the CRO and watch your popularity decline exponentially :rolleyes:

So...are you saying that once you actually start the match, you CAN NOT be bumped regardless of whether your equip is positioned correctly or not?

You are not quoting the entire rule. There is the section you left out that says all competitors are always subject to rule 6.2.5.1 that says you can get bumped to open at anytime if you do meet the requirements of a division. Quoting 6.2.3 to a CRO won't stop you getting bumped, not even for a second.

No, technically after you start the match you should be bumped to open if your equipment is incorrectly positioned. You should not get told to reposition - that should have happened before you start the match.

After you have attempted a course of fire (so presumably even if your first try results in a reshoot) in theory an RO should bump you straight to open for equipment infractions.

Agree, the last comment was my attempt at internet sarcasm, an obvious fail - i.e. if you get bumped point out to the RO the match wasn't run according to rule 6.2.3 and you will become even less popular on the range than you were already.....

Seriously though I've never seen a match run this way - i.e. equipment inspected before you start shooting and we seem to run the RO's discretion that if they see an infraction you get a chance to reposition halfway through the match. Perhaps we should get the RO to comment on the first score sheet of the day "Equipment OK" to cover this requirement.

Here's a question... Is there, was there a tool that will help measure/ indicate proper equipment placement. RO's have that plastic tool to measures bullet holes and 50mm (I think). Instead of just "eyeing" it.

No disrespect to all those but I have no tummy, Flat, and when I look in the mirror at where the front of my hipbone is... My holster/pistol and front mag does look to be "too far forward" but should I have a large over hanging tummy then no the holster and front mag pouch now "looks/visually" to be behind the hip bone.

How I measured my equipment placement is this. I place a piece of cardboard at where the front of my hipbone is have it positioned straight up and down and 90 degrees out to my side. Nothing on my belt goes past that cardboard.

Dang it... should have demo'ed that at Chrony... oh well... I'm learning
 
Roc, there is no substitute for face to face interaction; seek out a Rangemaster ranked NROI individual (Phil, Virgil, Kent, etc) at your next IPSC practice or match (at the start would be the best time) and show him what you look like. You'll have a definitive answer then and there.

A good friend - RM, IROA (RM'ed a World Shoot) of mine told me one of the simplest way to understand the hip bone setup would be to imagine you have everything on and you "belly up to a bar". Nothing should touch the bar. :D It works well.

Interesting... But can't really picture how to do that. Can you explain a bit what "belly up to a bar" is.

He means like you are leaning against a bar, having a cold beverage...your hips or front of your body near the pelvic bone making contact. I can not explain it any clearer as I thought his explaination was pretty easy to picture.

Thanks, it's clear now.... Bar table. I first thought it was a metal bar/ rod that was used.
