that "hole " in the forestock is NOT a 'GAS VENT HOLE" - it's there for DRAINAGE - the fact that it lines up with the gas system is just a COINCIDENCE- and the wood is slightly
thinner around it- you're FAR better off drilling out one of the rivets and setting a sling stud and t- nut in there- besides, it's closer to the centre of gravityin the 14 and won't throw the "balance" off so much- i don't know how many people that think it's a "gas vent " hole, BUT IT'S A MISCONCEPTION

I said drainage hole. Either way, I have a hard time believing that a chu wood stock wouldn't just absorb all the water before needing any form of drainage. I could probably piss onto my gun and save it all for later, like the guy did in Waterworld, with that tomato plant he was growing on the raft.

Anyone want to buy some dirt? I pissed on it every day!

pardon the highjack but just a quick question... arcaner: is that the m14.ca mount, if so how do you like it ?

Would like a railed front swivel but cannot find any..

Check out Sadlak; they make a rail that bolts up over the stock front sling and includes a channel inside to retain the drain channel's function. It can be ordered with an optional sling swivel as well, in case Harris-type bipods or QD sling attachments are your thing.

The sadlak rail is WAY over priced... it is as expensive as a good scope mount, for something way less critical. Unless someone have a used one they want to sell me at a discount i will be looking for other suggestion :/

Hey I know this is an old post but here I go anyways.
I'm fairly new to guns and am curious as to whether the short barreled M14 is a Non-Restricted weapon or not. I am currently shopping for one and haven't seen any of that type for sale. (B.C.)

anything longer than 18.5 inches is NOT restricted so the shorty M14's are good to go. POST your stocks folks.

Desert Sage with Ironstone competition stock. Turned out way too heavy to be practical for anything other than bench shooting. Total weight loaded was about 23 lbs:eek:

My M14S and 2 M305s. The black one in the foreground is a Sparrowhawk stock. The painted one is a Sparrowhawk copy I made from Hawk's design

:DThanks. The thing on top of the scope is what's called a Tri-mount. I got it from Sportsman's Guide in '04 I think; before the US became too picky about what was exported. It held a flashlight, laser sight(red) combination zeroed with the scope at low power. It was totally impractical on that rifle but it looked cool:D.

I think I have a picture of the Sparrowhawk stock somewhere and I'll post it when I find it.

Found a couple more

One I made that went to a Nut in the Koots
