Hi guys, I have a couple questions about hunting; I have not hunted since I was a small boy and would like to give it another shot.
1) I know I have to take the core program, my question is: I take the course and pass, is there a long wait for results or do they just say “you passed, here’s your number” and it’s off to the gov’t agency for a license?
2) do you just pick an area (MU), buy a tag and off you go? (I’m thinking MU 3/30, moose, white-tail, grouse)
3)I’d like to try ducks and geese, where are good regions outside of the lower mainland? (Van island, Thompson, kootneys…)
4) I guess my main questions are wait times and access, if I want to go out in mid October, is it reasonable to think I could take core and start the process in early to mid September?
 cheers

I would advise getting the CORE course - and PAL if you don't already have it - taken care of ASAP.

It could be a couple of months before you get through the training and get the results.

As someone who just did all the stuff, I just challanged the exams, it took about 2 weeks to get my CORE certificate back and I express post it out and they express post it back to me. After you get your CORE certificate you have to go to a service BC office to get your hunting number. If you start right away you should be fine for start of deer season in september.
