I shoot gophers at a friend's place southeast of Regina. For a couple of years, there has been a fox at his place that comes out to the field and collects gophers while you are still shooting. It pays little attention to you or the shooting. It eats the odd gopher and takes the rest away. It will come within 25 yards.

A few buds and myself have a local fishing spot we like to sit at some evenings and unwind. We mostly catch catfish and enjoy a beer while we catch up with each other. It's been a while since we've had the time to get together, but your storey reminds me of Bob. Bob was a scragley old red fox that would appear EVERY single time we went fishing. He would sit pretty a few feet behind us waiting for that first catch of the day (he knew it was his)just like my dog waiting for her din. As soon as one would say "fish-on", Bob would be up and at attention. We'd toss him the catfish and off he'd trot with din-din. Sometimes he would come back for a second snack, more often than not we would only see him once. I remember my buddy Kev gettting to the hole a little late one night, as he arrived he greeted each of us...Hey Steve, Mike, Bob, how you guys doin? LOL. We haven't seen Bob in a few years and I hadn't thought of him in a while until reading your post. :)

Thanks, good memories and a good way to start my day.

No, I didn't kill the fox. I have never shot a fox and only one coyote in my life. It's not that I am too high and mighty to shoot coyotes, it's just that I am not interested in skinning the stinking, flea-bitten things. Now, skunks - that's a different story. No, I don't skin skunks!!:D

cool pics. I always had a soft spot for foxes. Had one at 45 yards staring at my decoy last fall and I let him pass. Coyotes on the other hand, I fling lead at them every chance I get!

Great pic and story. I shoot too scare the foxes away from my place when they get to curious, no interest in killing them. Coyotes gophers and skunks are a different story.
Interesting hijack  my terrier daschund cross has killed 3 gophers this season while I have only shot one in the yard. Not a mark on the dog kills, guessing she shakes them to death??
