How much would it cost and who could do it?.
1. M14 ( poly or norinco which evers better)
2. Have it tuned ( minor parts swap if needed what do I know)
3. Duracoated or Kc Gun Kote.
3. Scope mount ( which ever is best for red dot)
4. Stock swap if needed I want something light and fast pointing ie. no JAE or Troy. ( if usgi or factory is best then Ill take it but id rather a USGI)
5. I want a gun that can give me 1-3 MOA at 100

Sure. Anything can be built if you have the coin.
The dot on most red dot sights is too big for accurate shooting with a rifle. The dot will cover the entire black at 100.

I dont want the dot to be 1 moa I want the Rifle to be able to produce 1-3 inch groups...(IE. id like to be able to hit a apple every time at 100)... I want a red dot because theres no way in hell this rifle is going to satisfy me with a scope on it... Unless I can hit a toonie sized target every time from a 100 yards it doesn't get a scope... So who does this work?

:hr:
If you tune it properly and do your part to shoot it you can probably hit a toonie at 100 yards. I would put a scope on it before a red dot. That or pick up a set of Garand sights for it.

I like the iron sight Idea Naw no scope I dont think its that good man ... BUT who can I write a check to I dont want to spend a bunch of money and f it up

great advice

read the stickies ..... loads of info to allow the do ityerselfer to confidently do the basic upgrades like tightening the oprod guide ring on the barrel, shimming the gas system for proper port alignment and gas lock tension......cleaning, lubing do's and don'ts..... safety checks and references on popular mods, accessories, stocks and scope mounts. It's all here free for the reading :D

get an NM guide rod, tighten the oprod guide and gas system, get a quality, steel mount and put an etched recticle optic on it , illuminated recticle/dot or not. The ONLY red dot type optics i have enjoyed using on my m14 rifles is the eotech's, leupold tactical prismatic and the spectre dr. (acog i think? I dunno) , all on either a utg tri rail, or ultimak handguard rail (eotech) and an arms 18 for the leupold or other optic
I really like the night force line of etched recticle optics..... guaranteed to withstand the rigorous double recoil hammering that the m14 type rifles subject optics ..... and mounts to.

I routinely accurize and modify these rifles and also fabricate custom composite stocks for those wanting a full package, "doctorized" rifle. Right now I am tying up all work on my plate in an effort to build up an inventory of my custom stocks and satisfy current orders. I have several 5 day fishing trips planned between now and end of august, then I will be absolutely off the grid from sept 10th to october 15th, chasing mule deer, moose and elk.

so, I felt that booking any new rifle work between now and October might not be prudent, with the exception of a few folks i promised i would squeeze in.
Basically the way it sits right now, I will accept work from those wanting an accurizing package, either standard or squad rifle (18.75") with one of my custom stocks, and are prepared to wait on the high side of 6 months to see thier rifle again. Despite folks enduring long wait times for turn around, often longer than they had hoped, thier is a growing number of folks who are extremely pleased with the end result. I think though that I have turned away more than 30 folks for rifle work since june 1st, mainly due to the postie strike. The demand is pretty crazy. So I won't post it up that my bench is open again...... but if you "really" need to me to overhaul your rifle and fit it into one of my custom stocks..... and can wait in the ballpark of 6 months....... feel free to contact me by p.m. or email. :D

What if I just got a Springfield what has to be changed on that ? what groupings can you expect ?

If you want to shoot tight groups with the springfield it will need to be tuned aswell. The M14 type rifle is a battle rifle. It has loose tolerances so that it will function in the worst of conditions. Realisticly it was not designed to be a precision rifle but with a little bit of work it can shoot some impressive groups.
Try doing the tuning yourself. Its not overly hard to do. Or sign up for one of Hungrys M14 clinics.

So far with my 2009 M14s , i have shimmed the gas system , my gas lock tightens at 330 and then is perfectly tight at 6pm with a gas lock wrench. I added an upgraded Raunch tactical op rod guide which is NM spec , USGI op rod , USGI Flash hider , tightened the oprod guide on the barrel , wolff spring kit which covers my trigger , op rod spring , ejector and extractor springs , i still have the norinco rear sights and a polished trigger which cleaned up the first and second stage respectively .

with just these mods alone i can get 1.5 inch groups all day with american eagle and sometimes even federal blue box if i slow down . my groups shrunk to about 1 " with winchester 168 grain nolser match competition ammunition .

I havnt taken my rifle out to 200 or 300 yards but hopefully this weekend if im not working it away.

The NM guide rod and the shimming shrunk my groups considerably and the usgi flash suppressor compared to the norinco one shrunk them even more , im hoping for a little less once its bedded in a usgi stock .

Rifle 450$
F. Suppressor 150$
NM guide rod 35$
springs 40$
shims free
OP rod 180$

Springfield rifle 1500$-2200$....
