so how come you still have a Sig in your avatar? :D

Just a pic i pulled off the net. It was more for what was behind the sig not the sig itself. Surprising that i have gotten pm's when ive changed that avatar, asking me to put it back. People think its my GF or something. Ive said time and time again it isnt. Have no idea who the chick is, i found it when looking for pics for the girls with guns thread.

I knew I was going to catch some flack for this!! To tell you the truth I don't like either of them, the grip on the glock is awful and the S&W is so poorly manufactured it feels like its going to fall apart... Buy a sig226 or a beretta M9 if you want a good gun, the US military has used them for years with no problems. I can shoot both of those all day long and have with no problems. It's a bit more money but worth it in the end.

A friend of mine was a machine gunner in the U.S. military and had the Beretta as his side arm. He really, really disliked it, and said it wasn't very well loved. I wasn't into guns at the time, so I didn't get the deal on why he hated it so much.

To the OP, why limit yourself with just 2 options? There are other poly pistols out there that might fit you better.

I would suggest you take a look at the following:
Steyr M40A1 or M9A1.
FNP/X 40 or 9mm.
Sig P250/239
Ruger SR4/SR9
CZ 75B w/ polymer frame

Test them all so when you finally decide which one, you know it is the right one for you.

its a tough call but for a FIRST gun Id say glock. Every pistol connoisseur should own at least one Glock. I want a S&W MP .40,,,,,its high on the list of next guns I buy. But only because I already own a Glock 17. Id get a G17 Gen 4 as a first gun. You'll keep it forever.

I put a couple thousand rounds thru my G22 and then I bought a M&P40 to add to my collection. I ended up selling the Glock becasue for me the M&P seemed to be a better pistol IMHO.

2 years ago, I was looking for my first handgun and tried numerous models at my range and ended-up with an MP9. Was a very good pistol, but I sold it to the club to try something else. That MP9 has been used ever since by the club and they ran few thousand rounds thru it and it's still the club's most rented handgun.

Well I used the M&P at work and own the Glock Gen 4 (and Gen 2/3). I gotta go with Glock. If your hands are very small, maybe the M&P has a better fit but that is the only thing I'd give to the M&P over the Glock. Price, history, reliability, etc go to the Glock.

the guys saying M&p's are #### is totally wrong, they are excellent guns, at a great price.
I wanted a .45 for my first gun, came down to glock, Springfield, and the M&P, and the M&p just had a waaaaaaay better feel, and its going on 3K rounds, with no failures of ANY kind, absolutely none. it has not been baby'd either, in a drop leg holster, gets exposed to plenty of dirt/sand when I shoot the rifle/shotty in 3 guns And i have only cleaned it once.
the glock and springfeild both went bang everytime I shot them... but really, I didnt like the look, or feel in my hand.
long story short, all are good guns, accurate, reliable, and about the same price,
buy what feels good to you,

Love the M&P .40 & 9, installed the APEX Duty enhancement trigger kit and love it! Had the the Glock 17 Gen 4 & sold it! Just preferred the M&P more! It's a coin toss.
