Alright, long story short. I lost the reg cert for my Ishvesk 1953 SKS. Where is the serial number on the firearm? Everything seems to be in Russian? :D

Thanks guys.

Alright, found it. My only question is. When I initiate a transfer into someone else's name without the reg cert, what do I tell them? My serial number consists of 2 cryllic letters and two numbers. That is it. Do I translate it into english and provide them with the two numbers?

mine has 2 cryllic letters and 4 numbers, but just the 4 numbers show on the reg. certificate. just tell them you lost the cert. but have the rifle with you, I'm sure they can figure it out. Worst case is they'll make you get a new cert. but I doubt they'd be that assinine over an NR transfer

Well, I just called the CFO and gave the lady on the phone the entirety of the serial number. :D

she sais "Oh, geez." and then laughed about it. "That's all there is?" she said. "Yes" I replied. "Ok then. Give me a sec."

Now I start thinking the worst. She comes back on the phone and said "Ok, here is the reference number. Have the seller give us a call to complete the transfer."

Phew!!! That went smooth. :D

good advice from supernova . dont try to translate the cyrillic latters, just give them the reg cert # or other info , im sure they can track it down.

Well, here's an update. I was told buy the buyer that the serial number will have to go through the registry, and either of us will have to call on Monday to see if the transfer was completed.

I found that a little odd. Any info?

Was he told that by the CFC? Seems a bit strange. I always call to confirm that it was approved before I ship but you dont need to. Maybe it got flagged for review?

Very possible since they just drop the cyrillic characters. That leaves only a 2 digit serial number. There has to be other SKS with the same 2 digit serial number considering how many SKS there are in Canada.

Some have letters and numbers. Depends on which letters are used.
What do the other numbers on the gun say? The but plate, stock, mag, receiver all have a serial number and they don't always match...but usually the receiver matches one of the other numbers. My experience is that the stack is usually the forced match part if nothing else.

Well, all the serial numbers match, so I don't see how that could be a problem.

The Buyer told me it would be sent to the registry and that one of us would have to call on Monday. That was all he mentioned.

2 digits not unheard of, esp on Izzies. And they don't seem to be able to deal with the Russian letters at all. Some of the later imports I've seen have numerous "H" or "T"'s stamped after the serial, which the CFO uses as part of the serial number. Saw one the other day with FOUR "H"'s after the number.

The serial number too short. Nothing to worry about. They will figure everything out. Basically 2 rifles have same serial.
