Hello from BC. Thanks in advance for your info on this question. I have my PAL and just recently mailed off my RPAL application. Can I apply for my ATT now with my PAL and save some time or do I have to wait for my RPAL to show up?

An ATT can be done over the phone in a matter a moments, provided you have an RPAL, and a range you belong to. Applying for it before would cost u time, because they will just tell u to call back when u get your RPAL.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but It's my understanding that they generally won't grant you an ATT until you actually have a Restricted firearm registered in your name, on top of a club membership.

No, they will give u a ATT even if you dont have a restricted. I got my ATT about 3 to 4 months before i purchased my first restricted, they just want to know about you club/range membership. But you need your RPAL to apply for ATT. :)

I think you're talking about LTATT, right? LTATT (or any ATT) is only for restricted firearms, so I don't think the CFO will give you a LTATT even before you have RPAL. In Ontario, your gun club instead of yourself applies LTATT for you. And most clubs will require you to have a restricted firearm before that. But keep in mind that different provinces may have different rules.

How it normally goes is this. First you get your RPAl. Then you go to a store or private sale and buy a restricted. They will then hold the transfer until you have a long term transportation paper work or are a collector and have sent in the collector paper work. If you have your ATT before you start the transfer of a restricted it goes through allot faster. We have had customers who were told they don't need it ect but what happened was the CFO actually said if you don't do the paper work in 30 days we will start the process to reverse the transfer. The irony was the guy they told that to already owns other restricted firearms and was getting back into shooting. He just let his ATT paper work expire and he said it was a hassle to run around and get it even though he already owned 3 other restricted firearms

Best regards,
Scott

You should be able to get it if they ask why just say Im getting my rpal and have sent the paper work off.. Don't see why not because it says all restricted and prohibs (12.6 only) that you are legally allowed to have ie no restricted ie cant take it anyways.. I don't have any 12.6 but I could transport them with my att :p
