Which pump to get

hi everyone,

I am debating on which pump 22 i will get. This will be my first firearm. I really like the remington 572 but been getting a lot of pm's with people who want to sell some trombone's. I am looking for something fun to shoot. For 100 yards and further I will eventually buy something else for more precise shooting. What are your thoughts ? still a lot of people telling me just get a 10/22 and call it a day.
 
I have a Rossi pump .22....(knock off of a Winnie 62)

LOVE IT! Cycles S, L, and, LR. Accurate (soon to have a finer front sight mounted).

I have waaaaaay too many .22's (a weakness) but, don't/won't touch a 10/22. I'd never advise a soul to buy one and "be done with it" either.

You should handle a few different models and pick one you like...not the best advice as, I seem to really like just about all of 'em!
 
Win 62 or Rossi would get my nod, too.

Easy take down, solid build quality, and I like the overall look and feel.

If you want a more modern looking gun, there are a bunch around, but I have never shot them. I know that the two above, will eat anything that is fed to them.:)

My avatar is the Rossi (at one stage of re-hab)...I forgot I even had an Avatar.

Can't deny the Trombone (n'er owned one...out of my league but, have shot one) and, haven't had my hands on a Henry ever... Seems that "gunsmithing" forum isn't full of issues or, complaints though!
 
The rossi's are good but if you want to mount a red dot , scope or even a peep sight that mounts on rimfire rails.... then the Remington or Henry is the way to go. I haven't handled a Henry but I've heard they are modified from their lever actions and have a bit of a weird linkage. You should try and find one locally you can check out!

The Rossi's are usually around $250 and are somewhat common popping up on the EE every few months or so. Remington's aren't as common but show up for around $300-$350. Herny's are about the same price when they show up maybe closer to $350

One bonus the Henry has over the Remington in my opinion is the exposed hammer which is also your safety half-####. You can walk around with the gun on half-#### and when you are ready to shoot you just thumb the hammer back fully and fire. If you decide not to shoot you can lower the hammer carefully back to half-####. With the Remington there is no exposed hammer and it has a crossbolt safety.
 
I have the Remington pump. Nice finish and function, shoots S, L, and LR.
Has good visible iron sights and dovetail groove for a scope. I've had it for almost 20 years with no problems. A bit pricey these days though.

I just bought a used Remington 572. I had it up to the range yesterday and it's really cool, the stock has very nice grain and it shoots great. I think they are the nicest looking of all the pumps out there and a little bit bigger in size. I will be putting a scope on it, something that is a lot easier then on the Rossi or Henry's.

The Henry's are grooved just like the Remington.
