Short Magnum Survival

All of the WSM's will survive just fine, although the 325WSM's popularity will grow the most slowly.

The most popular will always be the 270WSM and 300WSM, simply because there aren't many 277 caliber cartridges, and .308 caliber magnums will always be popular.

The WSSM's are gone and buried they were never a great idea IMHO. The SAUM's are pretty much gone with the 7SAUM seeing some popularity with target shooters.. ...For that matter, most of the RUM's are pretty gone, too.

I have to agree with your opinion on the WSM's, including your note on the 325 wsm.

You are, however, out to lunch on the RUM's, I think.

Don't let your love of the .375 Ruger blind you to the fact that the RUM line, on the whole, is equal to, or better than the Weatherby line (where they have catridges in the same caliber), at a much reduced cost, and much increased availability. The RUMs are also a great line to build wildcat cartridges from as well; again, better than their nearest competitor, the Weatherby line. I don't think they are going anywhere for a good long while.

There are lots of RUM's out there, so they aren't going to completely disappear, but they simply aren't very popular compared to any of the WSM line, and not anywhere near as popular as 7RM, 300WM, 338WM, 375 Ruger etc.

Hardly any rifle companies other than Remington are chambering RUM cartridges, and of those companies, they probably only chamber the 300RUM.

Heck, even Remington chambers as many styles of Mdl700 rifles in 300WSM as they do in 300 RUM....

The WSM's seem to be getting more and more popular, while RUM rifle sales peaked and declined pretty rapidly. Which is probably why we don't see RUM ammo for sale at Canadian Tire, alongside the WSM ammo! :p

You can keep all the new crap coming out. I used a 30 06 for my first 20 years of hunting. Turned to a 7m Rem Mag about ten years ago cannot see myself switching again in my lifetime. But hey have fun guys.

That's funny......Because that is exactly what some guys said in 1962 when the 7mm Remington Magnum was introduced!!:p

"You can keep that newfangled cartridge! "

:D:D

Well I am doing my part to ensure the WSM survival. First two rifles purchased where a 270WSM and a 300WSM. I don't see those two going anywhere as I see more and more of them all the time.
