In about a year and ten months I'll be able to apply for my RPAL/PAL.
Waiting that long sucks, and I'd do pretty much anything to shorten that wait even slightly.
Is it possible for me to write both the tests before I actually turn eighteen? Can I apply on my birthday?
Also, must you be eighteen to take a PAL course? (Although from what I hear some of the information given out is faulty...)
Comments appreciated, thank you.

You can do the course, pass the tests, etc all before your are 18. Have all the application completed and then the day you turn 18 sign it and drop it in the mail

when i took my course there was to guys that were under 18 and they were not allowed to take the rpal until they were 18 , not trying to be a #### i know it sucks waiting

1 800 731 4000 1 for English 0 operator. Then ask them they will give you an answer and they even have lists of the instructors in your area as well.

Best regards,
Scott

You can get a minors license before you turn 18. This allows you to buy ammunition and possess any non retricted firearm by yourself that you have the registration certificate for. Unless I'm crazy, when i turned 18 i filled out a form and mailed it in to upgrade to a PAL and all it cost was the postage. You would then have to take your restricted course and upgrade it to a RPAL, but in the meantime you could still start buying non-restrcted.

Just so I have this straight, I can purchase ammo and can possess a N/R firearm but cannot buy a firearm? Ack, neither of my parents have their PALs. But I'll try this and just buy ammo for club rifles, much better than waiting.
Thanks!

Thanks, do you know if the test results become redundant at some point? If I was up in Miramichi reviewing the paperwork and saw it dated a year and a half previous I might be sort of weirded out...

Pardon me, but how does one go about contacting the CFO?
I have the number of the BC man/woman, but is it possible to email them or send them a letter? I am planning on requesting a CAFC 671 youth license form after passing all the tests and such. Anyone know how difficult it is to get these approved?
Sorry for all the questions.

Renewal Fee

from the
http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/fs-fd/renew-renouv-eng.htm
site

The initial PAL will cost

$60 for non-restricted firearms;
$80 for any combination of non-restricted and restricted firearms.
Renewal fees waived until May 16, 2011.

are the fees "on" again?

does the form need to be updated, or is 0.00 fee required correct?

need to renew =(

When I got my license I did the course and all the paper work about 3 months before I turned 18. It then gets submitted and put on hold until your birthday. On my birthday I called and checked up on it. About 15 days after my birthday I had my PAL in my hand. You do not have to wait until your birthday to mail off the paper work. There I just saved you a week....or three knowing Canada Post ;)

Oh and another thing if you check the status online and it says issued you don't have to wait until they mail it to you. Call and ask what your license # and expiration date is. I bought a rifle from Frontier Firearms and had it in my hands about 5 days after my birthday without even seeing my PAL for another week. Thats about as fast as it gets as far as I know.

You only have to pay if you are getting a new license or it expired. Renewals are currently free just don't put anything in the pay part.

Here is the link from the CFO website with all the info for renewing

You can challenge the Non Restricted and Hunting right now if you like. You can als take a Restricted course, but you would not recieve anything till your 18..

If you recieve your Non Restricted, you may be in possession of a firearm providing you have a certificate. You will not be allowed to purchase a firearm till you reach 18 but you may purchase Ammo after 16 in some provinces I believe.

That's fantastic!
