Varmint in 22-250, Which Would You Recommend? Made a Choice!

I too got bitten by that damned TikkaBug ! CAUTION, it's bite is Nasty!! It's ...very similar to the tse-tse fly...causes you to sweat....impairs your vision( you start seeing tiny holes all gathered together at a distance ;)...and can make you empty your wallet and deny everything and lie to your family!!....Bewaaaaaarrrre!!!! :D :D

Yeah, I kinda know all about it. I had a new T-3 Hunter Deluxe in 22-250 that I shouldn't have sold. But that's water under the bridge, can't do much about it.

Anyone out there shooting the TC Icon series, and any feedback on these rifles. I was in to see a dealer yesterday and gave him my criteria, and after checking almost all the brands above only to find out "none in Canada", he came up with the TC Icon Weather Shield. It looks interesting, and I've read some pretty good things about them. Comments???/
 
Only thing I didn't like about the Icon was that it was a real bugger to single feed. It was plenty accurate, if you want to use a mag only its a good choice.
 
The Icon is the best kept secret in accuracy (I own 5 ) i own every make of rifle an the Icon is the most accurate of all... JP.

Wow, that's a lot of guns. Got any pictures? Perhaps one of your guns layed out in a Wal-Mart parking lot?

Sometimes the BS just gets a little too thick and a poster loses all credibility. I think you've surpassed that stage with recent posts.

I just purchased a Browning X-bolt Stainless Stalker Composite Fiber with fluted barrel, which c/w the rotary mag.

Have taken it out, for been busy with work and still finalizing the scope. One more day of work and then its R&R and powder burning time for 6 weeks.

I spent a fair of time picking this 22-250 and in general opinions "I sought" were favorable. It's a fairly light barrel and only intend to short for periods at a time ... was more of sunday gun purchase.
 
Narrowed It Down

So I was out to a few dealers today and handled:

Tika T3 Varmint - a bit bulky, weighs in around 8 lbs and the mag hangs down, although it holds 5 rounds. So No!

Winchester Featherweight - nice weight, smooth bolt, but drop mag and can't find it in 22-250. So No!

Savage - wanted to try out an American Classic Model 14 and the 11F Weather Warrior, none to be found, none coming any day soon. Would really like to find one or the other and see how they feel.

TC Icon - nice, shouldered well, nice fit and feel to the gun, smooth bolt, this may be the rifle I'll go for.

Criteria for Varmint Rifle:

a) 22-250 calibre
b) Light weight in the 6 - 6 1/2 lb area
c) Can be wood or synthetic, but the "feel" has to be right (how the stock material feels and how it mounts to shoulder).
d) Detachable magazine preferred

So I'm looking at buying a Sako A7, Winchester Model 70 Featherweight, Tika T3 and Savage Weather Warrior 16 FHSS.

Anyone out there have any of these rifles and what has been your experience? Anyone have suggestions for another mfg. or model I should consider which fit the criteria above? Let me know.

Arent most varmint models heavy? A Tikka T3 lite would be nice in that calibre.
 
While I know it's way to much money I think the ultimate varmint gun for walking is the Kimber SuperVarmint. Gorgeous walnut, stainless steel medium barrel deeply fluted with black highlights. Oh be still my beating heart!
 
My money goes to the Weatherby Vanguard. $600 package deal. Got it last winter. Didn't have the money and a .22-250 was not in the calibre range I SWORE I would NOT leave (got rid of everything that wasn't .30). Then bought the wife a .243 a few years ago.

Never should have picked up that rifle. Just asked what they had in .22-250, and then there it was. Had a little 'splaining to do. But, luckily, I have a great wife who understands my frugal nature and if I figured I needed it then I could have it. Just had to adjust some figures.

I love the rifle, but am still using up the V-Max reloads for the .308. Dang, and I REALLY did not need the rifle! The .308 was doing the job on coyotes.
 
Had One Too

Had a Vanguard in .270. I didn't think it was as accurate as I thought it should be and it was a tad on the heavy side, so I sold it and moved to a Sako A7. Much happier, developed a great load that this past weekend gave me a 3/8" 3-shot group at 100 yards, and it's much lighter than the Vanguard. However, it may have been the rifle I had, it shot alright, took a deer with it....
 
There is a post about two pages back ... "comments and suggestions wanted - x-bolt 22-250", and there is a post which has some pretty good grouping ... in my opinion!
