Maximum parallax distance?

Hi!

I want to mount a red dot on the top of my riffle scope. But I'm curious to know the maximum parallax distance recommanded.

I can also mount it on the side with less paralax but I feel less confortable with it.

6 inches of paralax is it to much?

Thank You!

I know what it is... Maybe I should ask differently my question...

I know I will have to adjust my Red Dot to compensate the parallax effect between 50 and 100 yard... I have to decide the distance. I'm juste afraid 6 inches above the bore will be difficult to compensate...

I hope I'm clear... English is not my first language.

Thank You!

Hey Spirit,

The parallax is the shift as you move your eye relative to the dot. If you look through your red dot and move your head, you'll see the point of impact shift. It will be the same regardless of how far above the bore you mount your scope.

It sounds like what you're talking about is calibration for distance. No matter the height above your bore, your scope will be zeroed for a certain distance, but I would imagine that the effect would be more pronounced the higher above the bore you mount your scope. The trick in this case would be to zero it for the distance you want to shoot for, then just learn how much you need to adjust your aim for distance.

Ah, now I see where you are going.
What are you shooting? CQB? Service Rifle?

There is no perfect solution from 5m-500m. NF2.5-10NXS is the closest

Sorry if I wasn't clean at all.. lolol For me, there is some kind of parallax effect between the red dot and the trajectory of the bullet (I forget the drop here) because they are distant of 6 inches at start.

I own a SL8. I think I can say service riffle. I will see anyway if my setup will be good

Thats not paralex, that is sight offset due to Height over Bore.

You can zero your red dot at a closer distance to make up for some of that at the ranges you want to use it with. (and increase it at other ranges)

Generally most people zero a red dot at 50m.

With any sight you will just need to know your hold overs/unders.

Red dot sights are nearly parallax-free for most practical purposes. This is their primary advantage over a conventional scope. The dot may appear to float around inside the optic, but point of impact relative to point of aim will be the same.
