Finally got my Ruger No.1 in a 35 Whelen

I don't know where else to share my joy! This is just a beautiful used rifle. It's a custom 24" barrel with a ###y front hooded sight. It's treaded but with a thread cover. Wood is just gorgeous and metal finish very good.

Unfortunately this rifle won't be in this pristine state for very long since it will be my primary hunting rifle. That doesn't matter to me though. What matters is the memories and stories that every scratch and ding will tell, not to mention kills.

I can't wait to have that area on the barrel or receiver that gets faded from holding.

I'm happy for you. I have one in 7x57 mauser and It's my go to gun for deer and black bear. I wish you happy memories...

Nice front sight. I would try the Ruger Bodington rear sight on it if it was mine.

Hint Hint Try a NEGC peep sight in the rear position......it matches up with that front post really well. Enjoy

I personnaly prefer my leupold 2-7x32 clear as daylight and quick too

The NEGC sounds like a good option. My brother on Connecticut just got himself a Ruger No1 in 35 Whelen too and he has a NEGC peep on it.

I might go with a simple fixed low power IER scope on this rifle just like my M14 if I put ona scope. I'll stick with irons for now.

Not a problem.
Larger calibers are fine if you shoot standing.
.416 Rigby has more in the boiler room.

I have a 8mm commercial Yugo Mauser in a Bavarian style stock that hurts more with S&B 196gr 8x57.
