My SKS front sight assembly(?) is canted.

I don't know what else to call it but a Front Sight Assembly. I am talking about the sleeve at the front of the barrel that the front sight and bayonet attaches to.

My issue is that it is canted to the left ever so slightly, that I have to adjust the front sight post all the way to the right just to hit the paper and then hold over to hit the target.

Any advice on how to center it? Right now I am tempted to just grab a rubber mallet and tap on it a bit, but I'll ask here first.:HR:

The whole assembly is tipped over to the left?

Hmm....sounds strange. I've never heard of that before. Is it a Chinese or Russian/European made rifle??

If the whole sight assembly is tipped to the left, you might have to take it to a gunsmith to straighten it up. I know I wouldn't be banging on the sight assembly myself.

That said, the sight assembly is AFAIK pinned to the barrel, so you MAY be able to drill out the pin, straighten up the sight to vertical, then re-pin the sight assembly.

the SKS was a mass-produced military rifle, slightly canted front sight is not uncomon, i have a russian and the post is moved far right because the sight is canted, tha's why the sight can be drifted to compensate. may look weird but if you can hit were you want too, leave it that way and buy ammo!:) To move the assembly, there's 2 small pin that secure the front sight base/bayonet lug, before moving the base, the pins must be drifted out but after the pins probably wont fit anymore...

How about a rear sight that is slightly canted to the right :D My sks rear sight is off center and could not shoot with it at all. It was one of the reasons I switched to a rear mount TS200 by Tech Sites. It brought the site line back on center.

To the OP .. maybe you can try the same. Use a tech site and set the windage to what you need instead of drifting the front site post all the way over. Other than that, try a competent gunsmith or just by another one, they are cheap and readily available.

They are often slightly canted, front posts are rarely centered. I use the williams or Tech sights with adj windage, then i center the front post & adjust the rear. The other option, leave it alone, you will prob find it will hit just fine, providing your target is large enough.
