What happened to my brass?

Look at this 10mm brass...
the one at the far left is just there for a comparison, it's what a sideways stovepipe jam looks like. Notice the dent is folding inside, whereas the others are folding outside. These 4 others are correctly ejected but are scrapped anyway... What's going on here? Possibility that they do sideway stovepipe but are ejected anyway?

It's from a Glock with a #20 spring, I'm using sub-minimum loads (10.0gn of blue dot under a 165gn, Alliant's published minimum for this load is 10.4) and I don't think the spring is too strong considered the distance the brass travels (i.e. goes far away)...

It happens fairly often as I have lost about 20 out of 300 shots
I've been pretty nooby this weekend alone starting 2 questions threads :p

 
It looks like it's slamming into the front edge of the ejection port. Your "sub-minimum" loads are the likely culprit.

*You can see where the side opposite the damage is also slightly dinged.

I do not see how more power would solve the problem seeing how far the brass already ejects?
 
Not enough pressure may not cycle the action 100%, thus the extractor is not flipping the brass far enough or fast enough out of the receiver.

An SVT40 easily demonstrates how brass is completely damaged on both the "too low" and "too high" pressure adjustments. In your instance, the only pressure control you have is your powder charge.
 
If the 20# spring you mention is aftermarket, use the factory spring and see what happens.

My guess is that the case is barely clearing on initial extraction, and is being kicked by the slide on the way forward. Sometimes the case mouth is being trapped between the edge of the ejection port and the barrel hood.

I think going back to the factory #17 would just hurt my frame, as I said the brass usually ejects perfectly and about... 10-12 feet away, it's just that odd 5-7% of the time

I was supposed to go try some more powerfull loads last night but found out the indoor range I go to is closed till august 1 and the outdoor range I usually go to... well I can't go unless we are 2 (Quebec ruling) and no one I know is free this week, we'll just see next week

So you are running a heavier spring, underpowered ammo, and are worried more about frame damage than proper functioning. OK. Have fun.

When you have a minute, take a poll. Ask how many guys have damaged a Glock frame due to any factor other than defective ammo.
 
yes I'm running a conversion barrel in a 45acp glock, the slide is lighter. And it's true I said underpowered but it's only 0,35gn underpowered (or 13% back from maximum charge (or 3% under minimum if you prefer ;)))
I will check with the stronger loads later

 
Umm, that might be your problem right there. The conversion barrel didn't happen to come with a new extractor did it?

If you are using a 10mm barrel in a .45 acp breech, the factory extractor is likely only making token contact with the rim.

Storm Lake told me I just needed the conversion barrel and new magazines, with a possibility of upgrading the spring #. They didn't mention the extractor I guess because I didn't mention I wanted to keep the brass eheheheh.
 
update: neither stronger loads, 10mm exctractor nor the combination improved the situation (the 10mm extractor actually made it worst on its on)
I guess it's the only downside of the conversion!
 
That is a strange dent. My shooting partners both have 10mm converted G21's and we have never once seen this situation. One is running a 22# spring and with my light loads for my G20 its still not doing this. There is the occaisonal inward dent from a partial stovepipe but never and outward dent.

I was able to identify where the dent is from anyway. It is like joe-nwt said, but the stronger loads didn't help
 
Assuming that is not a spring problem, who as mentioned before could create an short cycle forcing the brass to hit the slide the other think to consider here is your ejector. Don’t forget you are using a gun .45 ACP frame for 10 mm brass {longer brass } .Typically the ejector length is also determined from the length of cartridge that is going to bump in to it .With the shorter .45 there is no slide interference with the brass , in the other hand longer 10 mm brass will be in contact with your ejector sooner , forcing the brass to eject before slide has gone all the way back .In my opinion shorter ejector or longer ejection port could be your fix .
