" How about taking off the buttplate, tracing the outline onto plywood, laminate for whatever thickness is needed(drilling hole for cleaning kit opening), paint edges black, glue and/or screw on(coutersink screws making sure they don't align with buttplate screws) and replacing buttplate. There may be some minor gaps but an SKS isn't all about looks. "

I just might need to look into that.

So I am at the range and in the rafters there is an old swallows nest. As I am shooting the cartridges ejecting are flying everywhere and one of them actually hits the birds nest, which the birds had secured to the rafter with mud, and knocks it flying. The guy at the bench next to me looks a little startled and then ask me if that counts as two birds with one stone. I love this gun!

A little off topic but any way you could tell us if you company can dip these rifle's and how much it would cost?

Satain, we can process these rifles, however, they have to be immaculately clean and all cosmoline removed from all components especially the wood. Price for doing these rifles is really dependant on rifle configuration due to the amount of variation possible. It is always best to contact me directly to discuss this type of project and what an individual would like processed. Ball park range $300 - $360, again it is best to call.

I like the look of my traditional SKS and do not plan to dip it. Maybe my next one :)

congratulations , mine is a chinese rifle but has so far been 100 % reliable. looks nice with a refinished stock too
