Just picked up my first SKS

Well I went and did it. I went and bought a 1952 Tula. Accuracy Plus in Peterborough has them on for $369 with 800 rounds of non-corrosive S&B ammo. I looked through a few and picked myself a nice one. Although they all seemed nice to my untrained eye. I'll post picks once I get home and get it cleaned up.

Congrat! Btw you sure that you got non-corrosive ammo at that price?
 
Awesome. Now its time for a Mosin. 110 bucks at Westrifle. it don't get any better. Ammo and surplus prices are at an all time low for this decade. Grab it or don't.
 
These rifles are made to shoot corrosive ammo, its a no-brainer, it is corrosive. If you don't understand how to clean a rifle, then learn how to play crib.

The ratio for sks's to ammo is: Every Canadian household in which an sks presides MUST also be able to furnish proof evident of 1 and 1 half to 2 cases of ammo per sks :p
 
I forgot to take pics last night but I'll get around to it. It took it all apart and cleaned out all the cosmo. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be. It just took a while.

The guy at Accuracy Plus assured me that the ammo is non-corrosive. He said it is 1980's manufacture and is a bit dirty but not corrosive. The ammo is $169 for a case of 800.

He tried telling me rifles are brand new and never fired but the wood stock is force matched to the rifle. All of the other parts match. The first rifle he pulled out of the crate even had the refurb stamp on the receiver cover. The one I picked has no refurb stamp but with the force matched wood I suspect it is still a refurb. Overall this thing is pretty nice. Although I'm not sure how much my neighbours liked me cleaning my rifle in my garage with the door wide open for everyone to see. Oh well.

I do the same thing everytime i come back from the range;)......They'll get used to it.....or they won't:rolleyes: not your problem.
 
Clean it in the basement or somewhere you can't be seen. Letting all the young punks in the neighbourhood know that you have firearms is not wise. When they see nobody is home, they might try to steal them.

Only a few people know-my range buddies and a couple trusted friends. Letting too many strangers know about them is a recipe for trouble. But, you guys do whatever you want.

Cant wait for my second one in the mail. Its a love affair I dont understand, but dont want to be without.
They arent pretty, dont shoot well, but then they dont ask for a whole lot either.
Maybe thats the addiction, cheap and easy, without the headaches and drama.:D:D

I also have to agree that 2000 rds is the minimum one should have on hand... they are too much fun and you wouldn't want to run out of ammo.:)
