I got this bubba'd Swedish Mauser a while back, the bolt was turned down, and weaver bases had already been added, otherwise it was unmolested, Mr. Skirsons! :D Anyways, here is what it looks like with the rings and scope mounted. The rings were for a 30mm tube, but had bushings, works fine and feels pretty solid. The rings were from an NCStar scope I still have, that scope was too stubby to fit between the rings.

I've got a full wood M96 with scope mounted (lower though...) as well, otherwise unmolested.

I really like it. I've currently got it sighted in with 95gr Hornady VMAX's at 3250 fps. Quite a flat shooting combination.

I am loving it! Thanks Swedes! :D I don't mind the high scope, the recoil is pretty mild, so I don't think the high rings will be any detriment. Of course; if I had a 98 mauser in 458 Lott, I would reconsider using such high rings / big scope (recoil might beat it up a bit, and by that I mean my eyebrow and the scope). :D

These actions were quite popular with "see-thru" mounts to allow for bolt & safety clearance. Thats how my M38 Carl Gustav came when I bought it. Several years later I had the bolt modified as well as a new safety installed and fit with a sporter stock. I too prefer the lower mounted scope however if its working for you, thats great! Theses 6.5's are quite pleasant to shoot.

I have a bubba'd 96 with misaligned drilled holes in the receiver and a horribly bent bolt handle. I put a stock set on it from Tradex and I'm gonna get the off holes filled and re-drilled to get something like you have.

Should be nice with full stock and a scope. This thread has moved that project back up the list.

Has anyone tried fitting the low - swing safety from Brownells to their 96 mauser? Brownells states the cocking piece may require grinding to install the low swing safety on this make.

The one on mine was installed by a gunsmith.
Order one and compare the two safeties and see where the contact points differ.

You could always but Millet rings that can compensate for the missaligned bases (as a result of a drunk drill and tap job).

Millet Angle Locs, look them up.

Good luck
