AR advice

So I am going to get my first AR. I am looking at either the Stag 2R16LE or the LMT-SPM16-F. My question is which would you take and why.

I could also wait for the -$1000 AR from NEA. But I hate waiting and the Wife gave me the go ahead so I really dont want to wait for her to change her mind.

I'd go with the LMT, I own both got my mrp when they were first offered and just got the stag 14.5, both great rifles but you can't beat questars LMT pricing right now, just trying to fiqure out how to sneak one by the wife but I might just wait for the nea :)
my only advice would be not to get the export compliant model, that just my .02 though

Aside from the 1:7 twist and the superior fit and finish of the LMT, the resale on the LMT's always seems better. You may decide to go to a different rifle or change platforms all together, and it's always nice to get fair value and a quick sale or trade on your rifle.

Just my opinion..
 
The Stag also has a 1/7 barrel.

In June I shot a 562 and won a handful of matches with a Stag 20" Government at the BCRA Provincials. Bone stock never cleaned (or zeroed) and the owner only had 50 rounds through it before he lent it to me.

At $1290 it is hard to go wrong with a Stag.
 
I didn't realize all the new Canadian ARs are butchered with fixed stock, funny looking muzzle brake/flash hider, etc etc for them to be exported from the US...

Note to self - never going to sell any of mine.

Both.

Buy the LMT now because you have the green light, no further justification needed.
Then buy the NEA when it is available because it is made in Canada and great value.

Just make sure they are different barrel lengths because we NEED them for different situations.

The LMT Defender that I just got from Questar features an A2 birdcage flash hider and collapsible stock. The only things it doesn't have is the M203 cutout and bayonet lug.
 
Personally, an easy decision between the two - the LMT from Questar. IMHO, better build quality than the Stag and if you so care, better resale value.

The NEA sub-$1000 AR looks interesting, although I am not convinced of their arguments for using a lower grade of Al (yes, I do know a little about these things) yet maintaining "milspec" so will give probably give it a pass till they come up with a better, and more academic and informed response to the queries presented rather than the "made in Canada to a sub 1000 price point" circuitous logic presented so far. I am sure they will release a statement in due course once these start hitting the marketplace in numbers.

My overall reccomendation ? Get a Norc and a few cases of ammo and call it a day! :p Shoot the living crap out of it and them modify it to your heart's delight as parts wear out, but I realize they are a little low on the "ownership prestige" scale.

Do post pictures of whatever you finally end up getting!
