124gr 9mm safe to use in Walther P38s and P1s?

Factory ammo should be fine. It's all the hot sub machinegun ammo that has been known to blow up the P38's/P1's. I'd stay away from all milsurp, +p, carry rounds, etc.

I fired thousands of 9mmNATO through my P38, didn't seem to mind it. Watch the drop hammer safety. Can't say enough about that. Ensure it will not discharge when hammer is dropped this way. Or just don't use the darn thing. Mine discharged in a new shooters hands, who had just bought it from me and dropped the hammer pointing in the dirt between us both.
Some of the British Sterling SMG ammo, made specifically for SMG reliability functioning, was hot and you may want to avoid it. Apparently it was hard on the Hi-Powers as well. I think it was a double Z stamped??:canadaFlag:

Judging by postings here, the Winchester white box ammo is mild. Some complain it will not cycle the pistol 100%.

if I had a collector gun like a Luger or broomhandle, that is what i would use.

'Broomhandle' is a very nice gun, as long as it's original. I'd love to have one of them Mauser C96!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's not just a collector's gun - it's a GUN!!! Very nice GUN!!!!
And at least - 100K rounds of ammo!!!!!!!!
