Opinions on shotgun sights.... bead or ghostring?

Tritium Big Dot from Brownells. Great for shot loads but suck for slugs.
My favorite sight on my truck gun.
HP9 with 12.5" Barrel

I'm going slightly off topic to recommend the LAPD wedge type rearsight and the red acrylic front triangular blade for the front sight, on the M37/M87 Deerslayer Police Special for fine slug shooting, within effective range. Of course they only are available on this discontinued series sadly enough. The rearsight mimics the patridge rearsight, most pistol shooters are very familiar with.
I found it just about perfectly zeroed for 25 yards. I guess this would be 'long range' in a street gunfight, so to speak.
I once popped a wild boar at 75 yards with this set up, no problem. Just took it to the range and practiced with it, well beforehand.
 
If you have many years of practice and experience using a bead sight (wing shooting) then it will probably be a fine choice. Otherwise, a ghost ring or rifle sight will be more precise and less likely for you to miss at close range when it counts. If front beads were the more accurate way for the average shooter in a rush at close range more firearms would have them without a rear sight. Often those who trumpet the bead sight without years of wing shooting to draw on, also feel that a shotgun need not be aimed precisely to hit a target. The kill zone of a bear head on is very small, especially considering how fast and far they can move after being mortally wounded. You can't miss fast enough to win, on the range or on the river.

You don't need years of practice and experience ,but you do need to practice and to test your ammo with your shotgun and see how it will pattern with that ammo. Slugs at 50 and 100yds

I love Ghost Ring Sights, I have them on 2 of 6 shotguns but find Bead sights are quicker, just try it with shooting clays.

If a Bear is charging you,you might not even see your sights, so keep it simple, just put the bead on center of mass, which is where his head should be.
 
Depends on your application and location. I live in a rural area, so need my shotgun to reach out further. I like ghost rings since I can shoot slugs accurately out to 100yds if needed. My Mossberg is zeroed at 50yds with slugs, which coincidentally puts buckshot dead on at 20yds. Up close and in the dark, I use the X400 light/laser to aim. If I only ever needed to make shots up close, then a bead is probably marginally quicker than the GR. Not sure it's quicker than the laser, though.

Seriously, though....wish I could find a range that lets you shoot after dusk just to practice/assess this kind of stuff. All well and good to read opinions, but I like to try stuff out for myself. Couple times I ran through some drills at dusk where I could clearly pick up the laser on my Glock 17 and I was more accurate shooting with the regular sights on it. Maybe need more practice with it until the novelty of tracking the bouncing light all over the place wears off !!
 
Ghost ring for me please. If you can't shoot ghost rings fast you need more practice, or you are concentrating way too hard on the rear sight. You can almost forget about the rear sight, that is how your eyes and brain work together. YMMV
