Was wondering if anyone has used one? Read a good review in a mag, followed up by looking at one of the big stores online. Had a bunch of really good reviews aswell.

Thinking I'd like another bolt rifle, mostly for varmiting, possibly deer.

Have heard a couple of second hand horror stories about Marlin QA recently, but it seemed to be limited to the lever guns.

Thanks,

Karl

Not to burst your bubble, but , can you recall ever reading an article from a gun mag that was negative about a product??
The sponsors and manufacturers who's products these mags cover, also pay their bills
so, I usually regard the reviews with a grain of salt.
Generally, though, they just wont review a product at all, or print the findings, if its a negative review. Good luck in getting Remington to send over a new rifle for testing, if a magazine burned their last one, and dropped sales.
BUT, my friend has an XL7 and he hasn't stopped raving about it for about 5 months. I assume the X7 is the same action, so , unless the guys at marlin decided to have a "wet lunch", then I'd say it would be worth the price for one. I might just pull the trigger on buying one myself. Certainly can't go wrong with a 3-4 hundred dollar gun that has garnered tonnes of positive reviews. Always room in the safe for one more.

.....and, Wholesale Sports, shows them for $329.00 right now. That is a terrific deal!

Thats exactly what I thought.

Sgt. Rock, aware of the mag review thing. Its just kind of the catalyst that sparked the interest into looking into it.

Pretty much sold. Just got to decide on cal and finnish. Grew up hunting with nicley finnished wood rifles, and the grey synthetic stock on my stevens dosn't do much for me.

Thanks for the help so far.

As far as reviews, I can give you a personal one. I have owned a bunch of these rifles. Still have a 25-06, 270, 7mm-08 and 30-06. All of them are great shooters!

While I have a few very fine (expensive) rifles, I have always been enamoured by inexpensive rifles that shoot and function well. Am also a Stevens fan, and own some, however the Marlin is simply a better rifle: just as accurate, with a far better trigger, and a real recoil pad. :)

I have one in .243 and it shoots in to an inch pretty much all day with factory federal blue box.

It serves as my deer and coyote gun.

Topped it with a Bushnell 3200 3-9 and it is a solid rig for $600 bucks.

I've had a few Savage package guns and a couple Stevens 200's and like the Marlin much better!

I have one in 7mm-08. Most accurate rifle I've ever owned, does 1/2" groups off a rest with my best handload. The adjustable trigger is great, action feels good, has a decent recoil pad, comes with scope bases installed. Whats not to like?

Plus boyd's now makes stocks for them so you can make yours look like mine:

And really, doesn't everyone just wanna be like me?

You bet..........
Two remotes to boot.
One for the rifle and one for the scope.
How do you not get them mixed up?
Grind a notch into one? :)

Nice set up you have there.

I just bought a Marlin XS7 in a .308 and love it. The only difference between the XS and the XL is that a couple of them like my 308 are the short action. Seems to have a pretty good recoil pad on them as well. I have been getting just over 1" groups off the bench at 100 yards with the cheapo ammo right outta the box. The only sorta negative I have noticed is the internal magazine that seems to matter to some people. I am hopin to get my first deer with it this fall.
