AR15 9mm

You can covert a Norc, however the upper will set you back about a $1000.The mag block and other parts are a couple of hundred.

I was looking for something in line with the Norinco, or just a bit cheaper...

Here's something with about similar quality as a Norinco, but might be within your budget.

for a second there I thought you were going to comment about the whole "weak" 9mm round..... well played sir, well played.

for a (< norinco) budget with an ar frame, I am afraid you might be uh, SOL.

I'm sure a dedicated AR .22, could be built for for under $700 with the right deals/parts, but not a 9mm.

for example, fabsports (site sponsor) has a .22 upper for $570, with a lower (I'm sure someone has a complete norc take-off if you are dead set on budget, that they would be willing to sell) you still be be right around the 700-800 dollar mark. But why do pay the money and get the quality for what you want.

I think I have a line on a Bushmaster, they no longer make them in carbon and will be shipping with conventional materials in a month or so....thanks for all the advice! You guys rock, even koldt :)

The bottom line is: you can convert pretty well any AR style receiver.

The kit (magwell, bolt, mags, and barrel) will be the extra expense. You can then have a complete 9mm AR carbine or sub-gun style shooter.

You just have to call around to the various retailers and price out the parts.
Usually buying a complete gun is the cheaper way to go, but not always necessarily.

Stay away from cheap crap. It's cheap for a reason and will eventually let you down. The price point difference between cheap and a relatively good quality isn't that much. Maybe a couple hundred dollars, and if that is a huge factor for anyone, maybe they should question the purchase.

9mm AR guns are a lot of fun, but probably won't let you compete properly in an AR/DCRA type of service rifle/carbine event. 9mm just won't do the distance.

You can use one lower, for 2 guns. Have a different upper for the 5.56, and one dedicated for the 9mm. Very easy 2 minute conversion done at any range with one allan wrench. Easy, peasy.

Don't buy crap, you will regret it.

I have a Beretta CX4 Storm in .40S&W which is ok, but I would rather have a pistol caliber carbine in an AR platform. I shoot the Storm in competition in the USA and just about everyone has switched over to the AR...

I have a RRA AR15 9mm that I bought off of the EE and have been extremely happy with it. Eats everything that I throw at it and never complains. Nice to have the 10 rounds pistol mags as well.

<knock on wood> But I've been fortunate enough to have a bug free Carbon 15 in 9mm.

Hundreds of rounds of fun in the sun.

The last 3 gun I was at, one competitor was using a Carbon 15 9mm completely stock and was ringing the metal silhouette at 100 yards through a 9 hole barricade.

Beside this, I built a 10.5" RRA 9mm but it was far more finicky with the magazines you fed it.

I kept the Carbon 15.

With the experience I've had, I could never turn one away if I needed another one. There have been reports of the rear of the lowers cracking at rear, so it hasn't had a great reputation.

At the same time, I know a few people with one and they've been treating the owners great.

All that said, it is a shame that they are so hard to come by now and pricey to build.
