How Long do you think the SKS will be available?

Doubt they could produce them any cheaper than the Norinco ones that were selling for $179 Canadian.

Perhaps they could make new SKS rifles, but more modernized: tighter machining tolerances, Synthetic stocks, no bayonet stuff up front, working detachable mags, side-rail integrated onto the receiver, etc etc.

Pretty well everyone who owns an SKS will do these mods at one time or another (well, save for the tighter machining tolerances), why not just save us the work?

Funny that we all are like minded a bit,I got my sks a few months ago with a mosin to boot from Westrifle.then ordered another mosin from tradeex (cause he had a 1925 hex that I wanted),now looking for a 1955 Izzy,a bit harder to find. I am also torn because I want a shotgun too and am looking at the exact ones you all are talking about Moss 500 , 535 ,Maverick , Remington 870 and stevens even has a couple combies out there, cabelas has a good selection.the 535 combo looks like a good rig 28" and 24" plus the 3 chokes.I would just need a shorty to go with it!Any suggestions? Also ,weatherby has a reasonable pa-08 28" brl, chrome lined 3 chokes !

I would love to have ordered a 4th SKS but i know i am pushing it with the Wife...:D So i figured where i had no Shotguns i would go with that for this year then i will start to nag for another Sks in the New Year...lol There are so many different Shotguns available but i ended up with the Maverick but it was a hard decision with so many choices available.

They're $149 at Moregunssupply, the chrome lined barrel military ones.

I don't think you're going to see the end of the SKS for some time. I'd be more concerned about surplus ammo availability. The ex-commie factories are still probably making 7.62x39 but I'm more concerned with the UN making it harder to import the stuff.

You also can't seem to stash the ammo as well. I opened up one of those cardboard boxes that have been repacked and there's weird discolouration starting on the lacquered casings. I think there's going to be rust starting soon.

Mine was in the wood box but as soon as I opened them I put them in surplus ammo cans, they have a rubber seal on them ,I hope it helps plus mine were also sealed in plastic 2 clips per bag!

I ordered the Mossberg Maverick Model 88 Security 6-shot from Badger Firearms in Sask they seem nice to deal with. What part of Halifax are you in..i am in the Bedford Area.

We will never run out of SKS rifles. Millions of them produced, and still being produced today. Its the surplus ammo that will dry up. However, that said, we have so many more brands of ammo coming into the country than we did before. We may run out of surplus, but we will always have commercial ammo available.

Now do you think price of SKS will drop? Right now it is cheaper to buy Russian SKS then Chinese and in my opinion Russian is the best. Why is Russian so much cheaper I don't know.

Me too,do you belong to Mvrrc?

Small World...lol I don't belong to any Gun Club Yet but i was looking at Mvrrc Website and i was also checking into Joining the Annapolis Valley Shooting Sports Club in New Minas both seem to be really good Clubs i live off the Larry Uteck so going to the Valley would only be about an 45 Min drive.

Just curious how long do you guys think until the Russians start to dry up...i think we should be safe with the Chinese models for awhile but my wife is letting me make one more Firearm purchase this year ...:D and i am trying to decide to buy a either a Shotgun because i don't have one and they would be a great general gun for Hunting /target shooting or another Russian SKS i currently have 2 Chinese and 1 Russian but i would like to maybe get one more Russian but wondering if i should risk waiting until next Summer.

Get a shotgun,at least you wont starve to death.:)
