My 260 Cooper Model 54 Phoenix arrived today. If the Factory test group (.050" at 50 yards) is any indication, it should be a shooter. Hopefully the scope will arrive in a few days, and I can get started on load development. My goal is to break it in on a pronghorn come September, if I draw a tag.

That is a very nice rifle in an excellent chambering.
Best of luck on your Antelope draw.... of that I am envious.
My last Antelope hunt was in the '60s and I hope that someday I can do that once more before getting too old...

The weight is listed as 7.75lbs on the Cooper site, so it is a fair bit heavier than advertised. As for the price, it lists for $1960 on the Cooper site with the optional fluted barrel.

If I paid that much for a new gun, and then found out that it was 1.25 lbs heavier, WITH the fluted barrel option I would be irate. The company would get an earful from me, along with a returned gun. They could either shave 1.25 lbs off however they wish or give me back my cash.

Well, I know that stubblejumper has been waiting for this sweet heart to arrive at the dance for some time now, so I think he'll forgive her if she's gained a bit
around the hips.:D Is the stock as rigid and solid as it looks? What are you going to scope it with? Very, very nice dude!

When I first saw the weight listed on the site, I was actually hoping that it would weigh a little more, so I wasn't at all upset when it showed up heavier than that. My scale might be out a few ounces, but it isn't out 1-1/4lbs. I am planning on mounting a Conquest 4.5-14x44 with the Rapid Z800 reticle. Although it isn't a McMillan, the stock is very solid.

That is one nice rifle! You are a lucky man. I feel the same about my Sako Bavarian Carbine. :) BTW, big f'n deal about the possible weight discrepancy, some of you sissy's and whiners need to drop your 2 inch c@@ks and lift some weights! ;)

1.25 lb discrepancy is quite a bit? You sure of your scales? :?

Sweet looking Cooper Stubble!

I'm always weighing my rifles and components as I'm pretty obsessed with lightweight kit. Folks would be pretty surprised at the difference between manufacturers claims and the real weight of the bare rifle, although I agree a pound and a half would make me livid! Some brands of scopes end up being a couple of ounces lighter than advertised.
I'm very skeptical of savages claim on their new lightweight hunter.
My scale is accurate BTW.

I am not into lightweight rifles, mostly, because I don't shoot them as well. I like my big game rifles to weigh 7-1/2 to 8lbs, varmint rifles 8-1/2 to 9 lbs, without scope. I have done all of my sheep hunting with a gun weighing over 9lbs scoped.

congrats Elk11...any update on the 7mm STW?

Given the contour of the barrel and the fact that it's 26 inches long, I think Cooper was asleep at the switch when they listed it at 7.25 lbs. But they are
not the only manufacturer guilty of such an oversight, actually I think most are fairly lax when it comes to the details of their products and most have a much,
much larger advertising budget then Cooper does. What I don't understand is why we are fixating on such minutia, when there is such a fine rifle to be appreciated.:D

Nothing yet,I am seeing 7mmstw rifles on Gunbroker, but nothing yet with synthetic stocks. I am assuming that they are still waiting for the stocks.

I think Cooper was asleep at the switch when they listed it at 7.25 lbs.

They list the Phoenix model 54 repeater at 7.75lbs, and the Phoenix single shot at 8lbs on the Cooper site. Comparing the data for the single shot and the repeater on the Cooper site shows that the repeater has a heavier contour barrel, so it should be heavier. They need to fix the data on their site.

thanks for the insight!.I checked gun broker and you were right they had 4 model 56 cooper's all jackson game models (wood stock with stainless barrels)

I'm starting to get the itch for mine to arrive, however Febuary is still a long Time.....I Have a feeling by then i'll already have another new firearm in the safe, however i'm a very patient person,so i'll continue waiting!
