Does anyone own a Swiss Luger? I already own a 1916 DMW one and am wondering if a Swiss one is worth the high price?

They are quite scarce in view of the low numbers made vs the German P08. They also appear in excellent condition because they never fought a war and were only used as officer's sunday afternoon plinking guns.
I suppose scarcity plus the Swiss quality line are what commands the higher price.

They're worth every penny and more. If you're only looking for a shooter, pass, pick up a mismatched prohib and get a restricted bbl installed. In 10 years you will kick yourself for not spending $2500 on one. They are also in 7.62mm rather than 9mm
The Swiss do make nice firearms, as nice if not nicer than the Germans.

They look good, and shoot great. The .30 Luger bottleneck make the pistol very reliable. It is a very accurate round, even with lead bullets, and easy enough to reload.

Swiss Lugers are very collectible around the world. A quick check of US retail prices shows that they command a hefty premium in the US, and they are easily imported due to their curio status. In the event (god forbid) of a Canadian NDP government being elected it would be an easy matter to export your Lugers to the US.

The big problem with that is that most books on Swiss Lugers are in German.
One big exception:
Parabellum. A technical history of Swiss Lugers by Vittorio Bobba. It's in English and Italian.
But it's not cheap, kind of like Swiss Lugers themselves.

Years ago I was visiting a friend at the Presidio army museum in los Angeles. Goverment museums are allowed to aquire firearms confiscated by customs. We picked up 5 0r 6 MINT swiss artillery lugers with grip safeties that somebody tried to sneak theough.
On removing the magazines, they appeared to be heavier than normal. The guy had removed the magazine springs and then stuffed themj with spare parts!
The guy at customs offered to weld them up and we refused, he then offered to weld them on just one side! also refused!
Eventualy the Smithsonian got wind of the lugers, and since they had more"pull" they had to be sent to them, BUT they didn't get any of the spare parts!

Just a short bit about Swiss lugers as the topic is does anyone own a Swiss luger.
Swiss Lugers manufactured at the Bern plant are not the only expensive luger manufactured in the last half century, a few yrs back Krieghoff was entertaining the idea of interest to manufacture a 1000 lot of new production Lugers, the waiting list was 10.000 USD per unit when the exchange on our dollar sat at 120 per USD. Not sure if Krieghoff manufactured all of these or not.
As to the Swiss lugers they are very well built, the initial Swiss contract of DWM manufactured Lugers of 1900 era and a few of the early transition pieces are way up in price--1906 Swiss police Lugers with the Swiss cross and the cross in sunburst crest that are DWM manufactured are a prize in any mans collection.
Be very cautious purchasing any of the early lugers manufactured for the Swiss as fakes are around, not to offend our American neighbours but most of these fakes are in the USA due to the cottage industry of enhancing Lugers.
The Swiss adopted the Luger as a officers sidearm before the German military at large. the Marine Po4 designate and later the Po8 for the German ground forces.
This topic is no doubt about the 06/29 Waffenfabrik Bern lugers that are circulating in the 2500 to 3500 range in 30 luger. reasonable for what you are getting compared to an early SAA Colt or other collector piece. Also the restricted status makes these lugers easier to obtain due our phrohib classification. We can be thankfull that Waffenfabrik Bern chose the 30 luger over the 32 cal. round or they would all be phrohibs.
