2011 Calgary Service Rifle Association match dates

I think we had a decent shoot in spite of periodic showers, though I think it kept some shooters back in YYC.

For this Precision Match, we had a variety of rifles on the line ranging from 4 shot blind mag bolt guns, to TRGs to custom rigs, to 308 ARs, to XCRs. All rifles were 308/223/x39.

Beltfed 329
Headdamage 306
Alex 294
RichLPS 272
Kevin 226
Carbonrod 188 Partial
John 108 Partial
FFynn 82 Partial

Hope you enjoy the carbine match out in Lethbridge tomorrow.

July 23 & 24 Service Pistol and Rifle Match

^^Those are our precision rifle match scores^^

Next match this weekend! - July 23 & 24 we'll be holding matches 1 - 12 SR and our Service Pistol course of fire.
Rifle is 126 ish rounds (bring extra)
Pistol is 104 ish rounds (bring extra), prefered to have a holster with the pistol, but not 100% required.

We'll be holding a clinic and walk-backs on Saturday with the main match being held Sunday.
9am start both days.
Bring lots of fluids and a lunch.
Newbies welcome and encouraged! - with Norincos going for under a grand and TSE landing copious amounts of good, cheap ammo, there is little to no excuse!!!;)

845 for setup tomorrow. We will need the time for the pistol setupas well.

Should be a great shooting day. Need to load up some hunting ammo for tomorrow tonight though.

Heck with all the shiny new toys being posted by locals, just bring what you got and get 'em dirty.:D

You missed a good one. Sunny with a slight breeze.

The 300-200m run down zone is a big improvement. For those opposed to running down an embankment into bush anyway. :D

The rebuild of the 300m firing point is also looking good, though the dust is still very loose. I know I was waiting out the dust bunny during the rapids.

Beltfed 492 -- Colt 20 inch. Not a single tumbled bullet.
Alex 459. 16 inch AR. Not a single tumbled bullet.
RichLPS 449 -- G36. Not a single tumbled bullet.
Carbonrod 402. 308 remington 700. hunting rifle. I swear some of mine must have been tumbling like wildfire. :p
Cam 386. AR. Not a single tumbled bullet.
Jak 255 Swiss Arms CQB with a Spectre. Not a single tumbled bullet.
Exocet 249. 858?
Ffynn 196. XCR Not a single tumbled bullet.
Wade 102. SKS?
Jay 53
Brayden 94

If anyone else wants to post what they were running, let me know. I missed some that weren't on the line with me.

Pistol scores to follow shortly.

Correction,

Jak was shooting a Swiss Arms CQB with a 8.9 inch barrel and was still getting hits at 500m. Very impressive for such a short little gun.

carbonrod,

I've acquired a good used 9mm pistol (my first), it comes with 2 mags. How many mags do you recommend for service pistol and service carbine shooting? Thanks.

Carbine is 180 carbine and 40 pistol, service pistol is 104 pistol, and often shot after service rifle.

I think 2 mags are all that are needed, but those with pistol time should chime in. I helped develop the carbine course of fire, and shot one pistol match with a borrowed handgun(thanks again), but that is about the extent of my pistol time.

Two mags for pistol will work - but more the better.;)
For carbine, I'd recommend 6, but it can be done with
Less too.
Despite having load bearing gear, I tend to go as light as possible and just use mag carriers (bladetech or fastmags) on a belt.

Thank you carbonrod and beltfed for your advice. I've just picked up CZ SP-01 (bought from EE) at the postoffice today after work. As you said, I might get more magazines and start shooting it. I need to develop the shooting skills as I haven't shot pistol for a long... long time since I was a reservist in 80'.

I'd say minimum 4 or more.

Pretty sure you can survive with 2 for Carbine.

You can get by with 3 for service pistol. But for everybody's favorite match (The body armor drill) you definitely want 4.
