Theoretical AR Magazine Loophole?

So we all know about the LAR loophole for a 10 round magazine. The only issue I have with them is that they are ugly as sin. I love the look of a curved 30 rounder (yes, the LAR connectors get you close). So let's say magpul could be convinced to build a LAR specific PMAG that was marked "pistol only" and permanently pinned or blocked to 10 rounds, but still with the look of the 30 round body. Would this satisfy Canadian law? Yes I realize how difficult it would be to convince magpul to do such a thing, lets not debate that here. Just looking for the legality side of things.

From magpul's perspective all it would take is a rivet and a "PISTOL USE" hot stamp. Market them as AR pistol mags and done. Are they the ones that currently pin our mags or does the importer do that? They wouldn't sell another regular pinned PMAG in Canada again.

Only problem is that when Questar got the LAR short 10 rounder approved, the RCMP refused to accept a 10/30 as a pistol magazine.

The 30 round length body is extremely useful when shooting service rifle competition. It is a real asset for all positions.

I started a thread about this a long time ago...

Building an entire gun and having it legally imported in enough quantities is out of the question obviously.

If they didn't allow 10/30 mags then how about a PMAG with a super thick follower. Would that not be a "10/10" magazine? It would be incapable of holing any more cartridges. In the eyes of the law, what makes a magazine a 30 rd mag?

Yes the firearms act is faulty, but who knows, maybe magpul would be interested in a business opportunity in the mean time.

This has been tried before and didn't work. You guys are trying to apply logic to a totally illogical system.

There's a firearms tech reading this thread right now and laughing maniacally at the foolishness of us all.

Who tried it? Id be interested in reading information regarding this. Although slightly different, the LAR worked. Not trying these things would be the only foolishness.

Who hasn't tried it? You think you are the only person in Canada to have that brilliant idea? :D There would be untold riches for those that could pull it off.:p I'm sure a dealer will be along shortly to give you the correct info and burst your bubble.

Way I figure it: if you really want a 30 rounder, join the Forces. They'll satisfy that need and then some.

Not to disrespect someone who may be in the Canadian Military, but that has to be the most incorrect statement of the month. We as free citizens, not subjects, should be able to STILL use 30 or 40 or 50 round magazines. But for the fact that we all allowed ourselves to be held hostage by an act created because of one simplistic criminal over 20 years ago, we would still be free.

The willingness to comply with this piece of garbage legislation is sickening. Our fathers and grandfathers and mothers and grandmothers died and served in many wars to protect our lives, rights, heritage and culture. We all allowed that to be taken away by a person in an office using a pen. That is truly not the Canadian way, that is not the Canada that our relatives fought to build. We are slowly taking it back, brick by brick, inch by inch.

What he said.

Every time I use a LAR mag it's bitter sweet.

I still can't get over my anger at the logic that the typical thug with a gun wouldn't even remotely contemplate an AR to perpetrate a crime. It's absurd to think that even if such a person would go through the hassle to wield a carbine and not drill out the rivet on a 30 rounder.

But there we are thinking LAR-15's are the gods gift to Canadian AR owners.

Mag limits just defy all logic.

I do not claim it to be my idea, nor an idea at all. I was asking about the legal implications. No bubble to burst. There have been tons of threads about high cap magazines. I'm just wondering how we could get the 10 round magazine that we are already legally allowed to own (ala LAR) into a full size body - both for the looks and utility of it.
